About Motion for the Ocean

Have you made a motion to protect the ocean? Did you help with a river or beach cleanup? Reduce your carbon footprint? Rethink what you put down the drain?

The Motion for the Ocean group is open to anyone who values a healthy ocean. The purpose of this group is to visualize what it looks like to be ocean-friendly and to find others who are interested in the same topic. All images posted here should be related to ocean stewardship and appropriate for all ages.

A motion for the ocean can take many forms, so a range of images might fit this bill. You might post photos of a personal action you’ve take in your home or yard, a conservation-related research effort in which you participated, a restoration project in action, or even a time you learned something about the ocean that really stuck. Please use your imagination to help make this group a storehouse of inspirational images of everyday people caring for the ocean.

If it’s not obvious, please describe in the caption what “motion” you’re making. We want everyone to be able to share their photos and be inspired as they browse the collection, but we don’t want to lose the theme. We reserve the right to remove any inappropriate images and to block any members who are breaking the group rules, harassing other group members, or otherwise misbehaving.

If you are interested in sharing images on other ocean-related themes, please check out our other groups. Something we’ve missed that you think would make a great theme for an ocean group? Let us know: ocean@si.edu.

Thanks and enjoy!
