for those victorian confections found in cemeteries dating from the american civil war, when frothy and grim war memorials dominated the landscape, a tradition absorbed from mother england. the design and creation of these classical 'erections' lasted until the depression, here and elsewhere. afterlife exhibitions of family wealth and prominence became vulgarities when so many families were living with hunger. the years have aged, the weather worn, many of these beautiful, often overlooked maidens and crones, generals and ministers, children and wild creatures. share all you want. let's see staue after beautiful statue we've each discovered in our local haunts. :)
