When I made the apron, the bodice was slightly too wide for me, and as a result, the top part bowed outward instead of resting on my body. I'm a size 4, so I gathered the top a little more, so it measured 11" across instead of 12-3/4". Now it fits perfectly.

I'm a 4 or 6 also, and small busted, and felt like it was a little large on top also. I might use Rice Family's advice when I make one for myself.

Caroltinataylor, I would definitely decrease the amount of gathering on the bodice, but not cutting out the bodice area any bigger than the original pattern piece. If you decrease the gathering so the top is 14 inches and the bottom is18 or 19 inches, it would probably be perfect. If you increase the length of the bottom of the bodice area however, you will have to make the connecting part of the skirt bigger as well. One other thing I would recommend is to fore go the interfacing in the bodice area. I am a C cup and I think the interfacing added too much stiffness and it looked like I had marshmallows stuffed into the bodice area!

I was going to leave out the interfacing as I thought it would look too stif for my bust size (E). I played with it a little last night on a toille and I made it a little bigger and will have to make the skirt piece a little bigger too, but the style is so great for me, I never find aprons that cover my boobs properly and so always end up with paint or other mess down half of one! This covers properly. I teach textiles in a UK high school so this will be great to feel covered and stylish!

sewtakeahike and caroltinataylor - were you putting interfacing in the actual bodice that gets gathered? The pattern only calls for adding the interfacing to the top bodice accent band, to keep it from flopping forward. I wouldn't have guessed that the slight stiffness in the top bodice band would cause a poofy bust, but let me know if it does!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I am a C-cup too and a NZ size 12 (about an 8-10 US) so I think I might make a calico version first to make sure the sizing is right.

I sized mine up by about 3 inches on the fold and it fits just great. I meant the bodice band, I rather mine a bit softer so left the interfacing out. I am pleased with how it turned out. I made in offcuts for the trial and now i now it is right i am going to look for some lovely prints for the real thing when i get 5. I won't show the mock up here but if you want to check it out che ck my blog

Caroltinataylor,
Hi, I'm going to check out your apron after work (can't view blogs form work pc) but I'm so glad you shared how you sized yours. I'm a painter too & wear 42DD & was hoping to find out if this pattern would work for me.

I am wondering if it can be sized up to a 26/28 plus size. There aren't many( any) apron patterns on the market that I know of for the plus sized woman. Hope someone has succesfully made this one in larger sizes. It's a beautiful apron!

I just made up a bunch of these for Christmas gifts, and totally forgot to put in any of the interfacing! Oops.
