I don't know if you know the back story or history of the MongoLion.

Basically, he's a Lion that was raised by the Buddah himself. Gave the MongoLion humanistic traits and revealed the secrets of the Martial arts.
MongoLion married a human princess and was first a great leader that taught the monks of temples the martial arts he was revealed by the Buddah to help protect themselves. He became their guardian.
Eventually, Mongolion had a son with the princess and became power hungry with all his special abilities.

The princess left the MongoLion as he started on quest to conquer the world. It was said that MongoLion was responsible for Genghis Khan's conquests.
The princess sent her son to stop his father. Epic battle between father and son ensued and MongoLion realized in the heat of battle that he could not defeat his son. He allowed his son to defeat him and think he was dead. The MongoLion couldn't really be killed because of his immortality so remained in hiding sometimes as a real lion.
The son built statues of his father in front of the temples as a reminder of when his father was good and a guardian.

To this day, there's statues of Foo-Lions, Chinthe, and Shu-shu in the temples of Asia guarding them.
