LOST & FOUND - The official thread for posting Missing or Found Moleskines.
 |
I got this idea after reading a post by Gemma McTear here in Moleskinerie on Flickr. She suggested a thread like this, but I figured the idea was good enough to start a whole new thread.
Basically, if you have lost a Moleskine, let others know here. You'd be surprised how many people read this. Likewise, if you have found someone's Moleskine, let them know here. This works strictly on the honor system, but I'm sure that anyone who loses a personal notebook like that would love it if someone else returned it.
A few basic "rules":
1. The world being what it is, don't post personal information such as addresses and phone numbers here. If someone feels their notebook is the one found, Flickr makes it easy to contact the finder one on one.
2. Be honest. I've seen cases of blackmail or extortion (how ghastly!) in other forums, let's not sink to that level. I'm very impressed by the level of professionalism and politeness in this group. Any reward(s) offered is strictly at the discretion and responsibility of the owner. Also, if there are other items found with the notebook, leave them as is. Remember, the honor system works if everyone wants it to.
3. For now, let's only post missing or found notebooks here. There are several other threads which involve general discussions of losing a notebook, but this one should be only for lost & found type posts only.
SUGGESTED INFORMATION TO INCLUDE WITH POSTS:
If you do lose or find a Moleskine, when posting it here include the following:
1. City and location where the notebook was found (e.g. "Chico's Tacos" restaurant on Dyer St. in El Paso)
2. Any peculiar or identifying marks or information on the notebook
3. Person's first name and surname initial, if available. I'm cautious about posting full names, but like I said, Flickr makes it easy for members to contact each other one on one.
4. Contact options. For Flickr members, this should be easy. For non-members, leave a contact e-mail. Anything more should only be shared one on one once positive ID and confirmation has been made between parties. Remember, though, once contact is made, it's strictly your own responsibility. I'm pretty sure Flickr will assume no responsibility for the actions of private parties.
Other than that, this should be pretty straightforward. Let's keep this thread relevant and only post lost and found items here. For general discussion on what it is to lose a notebook, journal, or diary or other general info on this topic, including your recovery stories and outcomes, there is a Lost and Found Notebooks and Diaries group where lost and found posts and general discussion (including recovery and outcome stories) can be posted.
Good luck to all who lose a Moleskine notebook, I hope a generous soul will help you recover it. And for those who are moved enough by generosity to return a Moleskine, we all thank you.

Well, I'll start this one off.
LOST: One Moleskine Pocket Squared notebook, owner information in front, identifying marks: Apple sticker on front cover. Lost somewhere between Athens, Greece, and Virginia Beach, Virginia, possibly on a Delta flight.

Thanks Gemma and Che for coming up with this idea. Now we have the "proper" forum to do this.

Gals and Guys, as great this site is and well intentioned, only a person who knows what a Moleskine is would ever think of going into a flickr site and then go to a lost and found to announce they have the lost notebook.
The surest way of somehow guaranteeing a return is to offer an attractive award based on how valuable your notebook is to you and whats in it is.
As a test I might actually drop a Moleskine notebook in a coffee shop with some not so useful information with a reward to see if it comes back.

Hey, this thread really works. :) My brother just returned my missing Moleskine to me, apparently it fell out of my pocket into his car on our way home from the airport. Which is shiny, 'cause it had my US Passport stuck in its elastic. O_O
Go figure, I start a new Moleskine, and my old one comes back. XD

mousetrap1, Sir,
Even if only one notebook (or none) is found through this humble thread, we would consider it a worthy effort.
Of course, a dedicated blog is always a possibility.
Cheers!

Hi, I lost my small, black moleskine (sketch pad paper) at a Barnes and Noble in Miami, Florida in the earlier part of 2007. Thanks.

But that link is just one of those carpark pages, where a popular URL is used to promote other websites. That link is just a page of adverts relating to notebooks in general?

Hi Juan,
Yes, that will remain a possibility (and parked at the nameserver) for now. We hope to develop it some time in the future.
Kind regards.

Ah, it's yours? Sorry, bluman, didn't realise. I couldn't quite see the point of you linking to it, but things are clearer now.

If I may, I'd like to add something to the general "rules" of how to increase your chances of finding it. On the flyleaf along with the owner and reward information, write the URL to this specific thread. In fact, I've done that with my current notebook. Just an e-mail address and the URL to this thread. More like the groups URL (www.flickr.com/groups/moleskinerie/) and then the instructions to "Find the LOST & FOUND thread."
Like bluman said, even if only one notebook is recovered, the thread has served its purpose, and that person would be eternally grateful. I know I would.
Cheers.

Simple yet brilliant! If I found a Moleskine, I'd be much happier following instructions to this place than I would telephoning.

LOST: Berlin Moleskine City Notebook.
ON: 30th October 2008
WHERE: Berlin - In taxi / Magnet Club or Kaffee Burger / who knows!
All my details are in the front so if a nice person finds it I'm sure they'll post it on. So I'm not holding my breath that someone will google this - It's just a kind of therapy to write about it!!
It lasted five trips to lovely Berlin so it had lots of info , sketches and contacts of nice people. I am very sad.
