About Mökki life

This group is dedicated to pictures taken at your mökki. The Finnish word mökki means simply a summer cottage. But in Finnish culture the mökki is much more than just a summer house - for most Finns it's a place of physical, mental and spiritual escapism - it's a way of life, a place where time stands still and you are at one with yourself and your surroundings. Or something like that :)

From Wikipedia: Statistics Finland defines that a cottage (in Finnish: mökki) is "a residential building that is used as a holiday or free-time dwelling and is permanently constructed or erected on its site". Traditional Finnish cottages are built of logs and they are usually situated by water. There are 474,277 cottages in Finland (2005), the country with 187,888 lakes and 179,584 islands.

You can post pictures of your mökki, its surroundings, residents, or just life around the mökki. Enjoy!
