About Picture This! ModCloth's Diana Camera Contest
Since the 1960’s, when they first appeared on the market, Diana film camera have watched their demand wax and wane. At first, carnivals and fairs stocked up on these box cameras to award as prizes or give away as novelty gifts in raffles, because they were constructed of inexpensive plastic and considered disposable. Eventually, since they received the reputation of being low-quality, production stopped on Dianas, and they all but disappeared from retailers’ shelves. But not long after, professional photographers began relishing the imperfections – and often dreamy, impressionistic qualities – in the images that light leaks in the lens and other minor malfunctions in the camera caused.
Today, after seeing a surge in popularity among photography novices and experts alike, Dianas are back in production. We’re happy to celebrate this phenomenon with a contest in which you get to display your skill and creativity withthese quirky cameras!
All you have to do to enter this contest is follow these simple directions:
1. Use your Diana film camera to snap original photographs, then scan these to your computer.
2. Submit these artistic images to this Flickr group (ModCloth reserves the right to remove any images it deems inappropriate).
3. In the photo description list:
* type of camera used
* type of film used
* any additional features/add-ons of the camera you may have used to create photographic effects
Submissions will be accepted from May 13 – May 28. Photographs will be judged on overall style, creativity, and general ModCloth spirit.
