About Moblin

trying out Intel's netbook linux distro Moblin

screenshots, apps and anything that works :)

Well, in fact it was a lot of work to get things running the way they do now. For most apps I had to search the internet for fedora .rpm files (Moblin is based on Fedora), because I am not that much of a coder to compile things by myself. Having found the things I needed, in most cases there was lack of this or that library or other missing dependencies that had to be solved. So the google thing went on: find those missing libraries, install them and hope that no more thing is missing.

So, as you can see it was not that easy to get Moblin up and runnng in a satisfying and productive way but now I use it as my one and only netbook system.

Here's a list of things that worked out of the box on the Eee PC 900A:

wireless lan
usable web browser: Minefield (which is in fact a modified firefox) - the Moblin browser beeing too fiddly and buggy up to now

well, I guess that's it as far as I can remember - doesn't sound that much but made it possible to find all those things on the internet that makes the little machine running:

mp3 ability (beeing disabled on standard Fedora because it's not a "free" codec)
flash support in browser
skype (with webcam working but still some unsoved sound issues)
a twitter client (Destroy Twitter) which is running under:
Adobe Air
Open Office 3.X (lokalized german version)
Totem video player with sound working in the end
Google Mail running on Prism
Dropbox (stunning -and up to 2 GB free- web file storing solution that integrates perfectly in nautilus)
E-book reader
windows network integration via SMB
