About MIT150 SkyArt

Post your images of the large-scale inflatable sculptures by Otto Piene which were lifted into the sky above Killian Court as the culminating event of the MIT 150th Festival of Arts, Science and Technology on May 7, 2011. Be part of the team that documented this historic, moving and magical art project.

Otto Piene, artist and MIT Professor Emeritus and Director Emeritus of the MIT Center for Advanced Visual Studies, originated Sky Art and did initial experimental artworks in his first years at MIT in the late 1960s. Characteristic of Pieneís Sky Art are large-scale, inflatable sculptures that lift into the air upon helium filled tubes. The events are collective, methodical, environmental art processes that lead to poetic images in the sky.

The MIT Museum is producing the event and is assembling a volunteer team of MIT students and alumni to work on it. The project will include planning and execution with Otto Piene and crew.
