I made my very first contact 21 months ago and it was a lady called Donna from Edmonton, Canada - on Flickr she's bratli. So you can imagine the pleasure it is for me to introduce her Ministract exhibition!

Donna's profile includes a quote by Brooks Atkinson: "The virtue of the camera is not the power it has to transform the photographer into an artist, but the impulse it gives him to keep on looking - and looking". It's a lovely quote and, in many respects, I sense it's guided her own approach to photography. How apt then that her exhibition should be called "as I see it...".

I'm sure you will enjoy the photographs that Donna has brought together for this exhibition - the pastel shades, the occasional splash of primary colours, the organic and the inorganic subject matter. It's an eclectic selection that's held together by a lovely gentleness and a great command of colour.

I love all the pictures and none more so than the untitled shot of ice on a blade of grass and Chop Sticks. Were I to ever find myself on a desert island then I'd love to have these two for company!

Thanks so much, Donna, for being such a great contact and for bringing together this lovely exhibition for our benefit!

"...abstraction is a distinctive mental process in which new ideas or conceptions are formed by considering several objects or ideas and omitting the features that distinguish them."
Gideon Rosen in a philosophical discussion (not based in art critique) entitled "Abstract Objects"

In the case of these images, the remnant features are both distilled and highlighted to the quality of an essence that envigorates the whole image with presence.
