21 Sep 08 - Please read the forums, ask questions, and observe a lot before you begin submitting. A hint at what Miksang is NOT: documentary pictures, shots of buddhas, black and white, funny angles, complexity without harmony, and any pictures altered at all from their original shots (no photoshop, for ex).

Trying to figure out "what Miksang is" here by "just looking" is a bit like watching someone meditate in order to learn how. But it's worth it to us to have a public group.

About Miksang

Contemplative photography based on the Dharma Art teachings of Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche and other wisdom teachings. Please visit the Miksang Society for Contemplative Photography website for further information.

This group invites postings publicly, and, therefore, is not necessarily representative of "just Miksang" work, it also includes things that people who are not yet practicing, nor have taken classes, are posting out of curiosity. Please see the Miksang Society for Contemplative Photography website for 100% "pedagogical" examples.

It is important to understand that Miksang does not have the "corner of the market" on Clear Seeing - other groups with similar aesthetics are all over Flickr, and we are looking for something very specific. It's a bit backwards to choose "Miksang" pictures, because Miksang is a specific path of study, and training, not just an aesthetic.

If you repeatedly submit and are rejected, email me through Flickr and I can try and explain "why". Also check out any groups with these titles or tags: Wabi Sabi, Zen Aesthetics, etc. A couple of folks have developed their own "Miksang reject" sets or pools - I understand the approach, but encourage you instead to find a home that works for your shots, rather than feeling left out here.

Finally, the senior teacher who administers classes overseeing the teachers who administer here (got that?) is John McQuade of Toronto.
