07 May 09 - Welcome! If you want to see all the images in our pool, please set your content filters to include "art/illustration"! Don't forget to mark your own illus posts as "art/illus" (under the "flag your photo" dialog), so the powers that be don't get cranky. :-)

NOTE: Kid-related ads and magazine covers/spreads are okay, but please, no images from vintage children's books. Retro Kid is the appropriate place for those. Thanks.

About mid-century illustrated

NOTE: Please post only 5 images per source (by which we mean single publication or set of items -- like stamps, or advertising cards from one series. Post as much various material from a particular illustrator as you would like!). No daily posting limit. Also, we are an illustration group. Please do not post photos. Children's book illustrations should be posted in our sister group, Retro Kid, which features vintage kid illos and graphics 1945-1965. Other child-related stuff: ads, magazine covers, magazine spreads, etc., should be okay here.

* * *

A place to post *anything* illustrated, from the period spanning 1945-1965 (with a little latitude on either end).

We're looking for illustrations from sources including, but not limited to, magazines (including advertising), books, packaging, record album covers, etc.

We're not looking for any photography, even printed in mags or books, unless the typography that accompanies it is particularly special.

It's not that we don't love the cool editorial and advertising photography of the time, but our aim is to feature the illustration, graphic layout styles, and typography of the period.

Post as often and as much as you wish!
