17 Feb 08 - Welcome to the group that is a repository for photographs of the METRA commuter rail system, serving Chicago, Illinois and the surrounding suburbs. We like South Shore interurbans too! Just so you know, I try to tag photos with (at least) the reporting marks and road number (if one is visible in the picture) and a location/route code, if I can figure out where the picture was taken, and on which line. Photos of Chicago commuter trains before the days of Metra are welcome too.

About Metra

For those who like to ride & photograph the METRA commuter trains serving Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.

Stations, track, trains, servicing facilities, parking lots...anything Metra related can be posted here....even Metra model trains.

Historic photos of Chicago commuter trains are welcome too, from the days before Metra: Northwestern, Burlington, Illinois Central, Milwaukee Road, etc.

Though they aren't a part of Metra, pictures of South Shore electrics will be allowed as well....but please no CTA...they have their own group.
