Historical map data?
|
So if memories are an expression of historical remberances, how is it possible to use current maps to express the temporal quality of those memories? Google is great for knowing the current state of geography, but so much has changed since I was a child.
I used to play in the woods behind my parents' house, but now those woods are a subdivision. Using a current Google Earth snapshot only tells the story of the "now these woods are a subdivision" but I'd rather really be able to show you exactly where the stream was that I used to find box turtles (and the pictures I took of them).
I feel that all of these Web 2.0 hackups are leading us to something better, but man we are not there yet.

Doesn't that make you feel old? ;)
Of course there may be changes from how it was when you were a kid, but it can still be used to tell stories about where you grew up, poetic license and everything.

We may not have your childhood memories but we are working on historical mapping data.
