About MDC 75th Anniversary Photo Contest
How to Participate
From February 1, 2012, to May 15, 2012, join the “MDC 75th Anniversary Photo Contest” on Flickr™ (see Contest Rule 4 below), and give us your best photos in the following seven categories:
-Insects and spiders
-Reptiles and amphibians
-Plants and fungi
-Habitats and landscapes
-Outdoor recreation activities.
A panel of judges chosen by MDC will pick the best photo in each category, and the public will choose the best overall photo from those seven category winners. Voting starts in July 2012.
The seven top-winning photos will appear in the October 2012 Missouri Conservationist, and they will be published as a slideshow on our “75th Anniversary” Web page through November 2012.
1. Time frame
-The “MDC 75th Anniversary Photo Contest” begins February 1, 2012, and ends on May 15, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. Central Daylight Time.
2. Who may enter
-If you've won a magazine or newspaper contest with your photo(s) already, please let someone else have a chance.
-Contestants must be 18 years old or older and cannot be active employees of MDC.
-By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that he or she is 18 years old or older.
-Parents may enter photos taken by their children, but they must include the child's name and age in the photo caption.
-MDC will determine winners' eligibility based on information submitted.
3. What you may enter
-You may enter up to 10 photos in any category, but you cannot enter more than 25 photos altogether.
-Do not enter the same photo in more than one category.
-You must tag all photos with the exact name of the category listed above (birds, insects and spiders, etc.) that you want to enter the photo.
-Photos in categories one through six must depict native wild species or habitats.
-No photos of exotic (non-native) or domesticated species will be accepted.
-All photos must have been taken in Missouri.
4. Use Flickr™ to submit your entries
-Click the "Add Photos" link on the group page, browse to your photos, and add them to the group.
-You must tag each photo with one of the seven categories listed above.
-You must include photo captions with all submissions. Captions should include the following:
-The subject of the photo
-The location of the photo
-Any other information you'd like us to know about the photo.
If you are a winner, MDC will contact you through the email account you provided or created when joining Flickr™ . So be sure to monitor that account. OR send us a Flickrmail note with your current email and phone number so we can be sure to reach you.
If you have trouble using Flickr™, please consult their online help files. MDC is not responsible for any issues or problems you encounter while trying to upload a photo on Flickr™.
5. Technical Requirements
-Submissions must be made through the “MDC 75th Anniversary Photo Contest” Flickr™ group. No other entry method will be accepted.
-Photos MUST be at least 2,000 pixels wide or larger.
-Photos MUST be in JPG format.
-Photos MUST be tagged with ONE of the seven categories in which you are entering it.
-Entries must include other pertinent information about the photo, such as species and location of the photo (conservation area, body of water, county or town in Missouri).
-Photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization (cropping, small corrections to color, contrast or exposure, dust removal) will not be accepted.
-By entering the contest, you grant to the Missouri Department of Conservation a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual and non-exclusive license to reproduce, display, distribute and publish your photo in any MDC media, including magazines, websites, books, exhibits or other publications managed by MDC.
-You retain all other rights to your photos.
-A panel of judges selected by MDC will choose the best photo from each category.
-In July 2012, MDC will invite the public to vote on the “best of show” from these seven category winners during the month of July.
-All seven winning photos will appear in the October 2012 Missouri Conservationist magazine and as a slideshow on the “75th Anniversary” Web page through November 2012.
