About Matrix Game

A game that links inter-related photos into a growing matrix of connections. Link in!

If you have played Photodominoes, or any of the other associational games on flickr, you will quickly get the hang of this one. The point of the game is to evolve an inter-related matrix of photos, starting with only a few pictures to build from.

THE GAME
Several photos will be placed in the pool as starting pieces. To add a photo to the pool you must relate your photo to at least two of the other photos in the pool, in the same way as Photodominoes are conducted. The relationships can be by topic, color, shape or whatever other creative way you can produce a common thread between your picture and the ones you are relating to.

To keep it interesting, don't just relate a photo of a cat to two other cat pictures! Find two or more DIFFERENT common elements for your links. If you find a pool photo of something red and another picture of a car, your move could be a photo of a red car, linked to the two earlier pics! If you have a photo of a man on a horse, you could link it to one pool picture of a man and another pool photo of a horse.

TO PLAY
To play, you post a small version of your photo in the comment thread of each of the photos you are relating to, and you add a small version of the two photos you are starting on in the comment space of your own photo.

Just as in Photodominoes, your plays can be done using the Flickr commment tool available here:

(be sure your browser will allow the tool as a pop-up) or by copying the HTML for the small size.

When you have completed the comments you can post your photo to the pool. Your photos can then be used by others to play. As they do, each photo in the pool will develop a string of attached, related pictures in the comments they receive. When viewing any picture from the pool, you will see all of the pictures that others have related to it.

Hopefully, your photos will continue to remain active long after you make your play. Even if you stop playing, you will be able to see activity on a photo of yours when others relate to it.


You can play up to four new photos a day, as long as they get linked to others. There is no limit on the number of connections you may make with the photos you already have in the pool.

Any photo that is not linked to at least two others will be removed from the pool.

This is a family-friendly group, so no nudity/porn/offensive please!
