About Matisse Blouse Roumaine

The starting point is the iconic masterpiece by French painter henri Matisse, displayed in Paris Modern Art Museum, entitled 'Blouse Roumaine" (Romanian blouse) showing a young girl wearing a Romanian embroidered blouse.
This painting was part of a theme which the painter produced over a long period with this ethnic blouse as the focus of the painting.
Matisse had a whole collection of such blouses given to him as a present by a fellow-painter and life-long friend the Romanian Theodor Pallady. These blouses formed the core of a recent exhibition of Matisse's collection of textiles, which were displayed at the Royal Academy in London, in New York and elsewhere.
The ethos of the group is to show pictures of contemporary and historic photographs of women weraing the Romanian blouse.
Amongst them Romanian royalty (Queen Elizabeth of Romania, Queen Marie and her daughters) but also humble women from the farming community.
