13 Jul 09 - The Heritage Lottery Fund has confirmed that the Mary Rose Trust has qualified for their £21m grant. The Trust itself has raised nearly £10m and they are working hard to find the last £5m. This major project is to complete the conservation of the Tudor warship, the Mary Rose, and build a permanent museum in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to house the hull and her artefacts. About Mary Rose

Hello!

Have you been inspired by the Mary Rose story? Have you visited the Mary Rose at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard? Did you watch her being raised in 1982?

This group offers one way to contribute to the 'creative response gallery' being run by the Mary Rose Trust. That gallery encourages all virtual or actual visitors to the Mary Rose to submit any creative or artistic response, for potential inclusion on the Mary Rose website.

This group is for photographs or images of any kind of creative response to the Mary Rose - like a painting, a piece of jewellery, a cartoon, embroidery, a piece of furniture, a sculpture, a model, an image of a poem. Your imagination is your boundary! Within commonly understood ideas of decency please.

Post visual things here in this group, or send jpeg files or Word documents direct to the Mary Rose Trust by email at education@maryrose.org.

The Mary Rose is the only 16th century warship on display anywhere in the world. Built between 1509 and 1511, she was one of the first ships able to fire a broadside, and was a firm favourite of King Henry VIII. After a long and successful career, she sank accidentally during an engagement with the French fleet in 1545. Her rediscovery and raising were seminal events in the history of nautical archaeology.

Visit www.maryrose.org for more information about visiting the Mary Rose and her collection at the Portsmouth Dockyard (just minutes from the Portsmouth Harbour rail station). You can also read on the website about the exciting Heritage Lottery Fund project to create a sensational museum in which the Mary Rose and her artefacts tell their unique stories.
