Market Street Railway is a volunteer-led non-profit that preserves historic transit in San Francisco. We support Muni in promoting its vintage streetcars (the F-line) and cable cars. We receive no government funding and depend on membership dues, donations, and proceeds from sales of our merchandise to support our preservation and transit advocacy.

Our annual Museums in Motion streetcar and cable car calendar is a very important part of our fundraising. We'd like your help putting together our 2013 calendar.

Muni's second century begins

2013 marks the beginning of Muni's second century. We would like to emphasize both its past and its future with fresh photographs of the vintage streetcars and cable cars in action.

Submit your photos

We're particularly looking for high-quality photos of currently running F-line streetcars and cable cars for the feature photo, which will be paired with historic black and white photos relating to the same theme, location, or time period. We're looking for both classic shots centered on the vehicles themselves and more unconventional perspectives, framing and composition. We are limiting our feature photos to only streetcars and cable cars though, not modern light rail vehicles or buses.

Photos should be landscape (horizontally) oriented, in color, and at least 3,000 x 2,000 pixels. Note that our calendar is in a "widescreen" format, so a traditional 35mm framing of a tight shot of a streetcar would be problematic. Our format requires cropping top and/or bottom from a standard 4x3 format, so please take that into consideration.

We know many of you don't post high-resolution versions to Flickr, but any photos submitted for publication should be available as camera original JPEG or RAW files without watermarks.

To submit a photo all you need to do is tag it 2013msrcalendar.

There's no limit to how many photos you may submit by tagging 2013msrcalendar, but please help us out by selecting what you think are your best and not simply tagging every photo.

Photographers are always fully credited with email address and website published in the calendar and are presented five calendars for your own use.

You can take a look at our current calendar at www.streetcar.org/store/calendar.html

Questions? Post a comment here, and we'll answer it, so everyone can benefit from your question. Thanks in advance for your help!

Keep em coming everybody! Now that we are seeing more of the Brookville fleet on the streets, there should be some more opportunities for "new" shots!

By the way, to answer a question, the main photos print at 16" wide by 10.5" high, making an aspect ratio of about 8:5
