About Manizales
Manizales is a city of 380,000 people and the capital of the department of Caldas, located in central Colombia. The city is located in the north of the Colombian Coffee-Growers Axis ("Eje Cafetero"), near the volcano Nevado del Ruiz, at a height of about 2153 metres.
The city of Manizales is described as having "abrupt topography"; it is built on a mountain region with a number of ridgelines and steep slopes. Combined with the seismic instability of the area, this has required architectural adaptations and public works to make the city safer.
Foundation: 12 of October of 1849. Founders: The group of colonos of "the expedition of the 20", come from Neira and Salamina.
Ciudad en el centro occidente de Colombia, capital del departamento de Caldas, con una población de 368.000 habitantesaproximadamente, dada la vocación universitaria de la ciudad, existe un alto grado de población flotante.
Cuenta con múltiples universidades, entre ellas:Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad de Caldas, Universidad de Manizales, Universidad Autónoma, Universidad Luis Amigó, Universidad Antonio Nariño, Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia.
Conocida también por ser sede del Reinado Internacional del Café, que se realiza anualmente durante las primeras semanas de Enero, coincidiendo con la Feria de Manizales, una de las más antiguas de América y que inaugura la Temporada Taurina Internacional.
