About MANILA CARNIVALS 1908-1939Perhaps, no other event has piqued the interest and stirred a nation’s imagination more than the spectacular Manila Carnivals, held annually from 1908-1939. Organized as a goodwill event to celebrate harmonious U.S.-Philippine relations and to showcase our commercial, industrial and agricultural progress, the Carnivals were held at the Wallace Field in Luneta.The 2 week fair was marked with spectacular parades, lavish shows, music and firework displays. The highlight was the crowning of the Queen of The Manila Carnival, chosen from among the daughters of the country's most socially prominent families. This forum celebrates the glorious carnival era via pictorial mementos and discussions of our historied past. |
