22 Feb 10 - Wanted: pictures of buses operated by independent concerns past and present since the 26 October 1986. From maverick low cost companies to high quality family concerns, this group aims to present an archive of buses post-deregulation outside of the PTE owned companies and former NBC concerns.

About Bus UK: Independent Bus Companies of the Greater Manchester area

Since deregulation began, the Greater Manchester area became a hotbed of competition with independent companies snapping at the heels of established ex-public sector companies. The independents included established coach companies, new concerns formed by ex-GMT/NBC employees.

This group focuses on the independents which (amid the confusion) have brought and still bring colour to the Greater Manchester bus scene.

We accept: all images of buses operated by Greater Manchester based independents within and on routes outside the GMPTE boundary.

Also welcome: independent concerns whom in recent years have left the scene altogether, or been bought by bigger companies like Stagecoach, FirstGroup and Arriva.
