Gene Hunt - Mikey - For those of you who are new to this group (or who don't know me), i'm into urban photography such as back-to-backs, council estates, 1960s high rise tower blocks, Manchester Overspill estates built after World War II and of course my native Wythenshawe.
I also attend various Manchester Flickr meets when I can

hi I'm El (short for Eleanor which you are free to use if you want to be all formal...)
Relatively new to photography and the Manchester Flickr group. Interests are varied - back ground is in planning/urban design and housing so I tend towards taking pics of buildings, architecture, urban landscapes etc etc. Also like my holidays so I take lots of holiday pics - have tended to be a bit point and shooty so wanting to develop and make them more arty-farty (things I'll be proud to put on me wall!)...
At the moment I am most certainly learning and there are lots of inspirational shots from everyone in Manchester - something to try and emulate!

Hi
I'm relatively new to the group (though have been lurking and checking the excellent pics for a while!) Have become quite obsessed with photography recently and like to shoot all sorts of stuff and play in post-processing too. Re-discovering film using the lessons i'm learning with digital and am looking forward to getting on some meets to inspire me some more!

Hi Guys
Relatively old hand at Flickr, been in this group for over a year, made some great friends and visited some great places as a result. So all you lurkers out there should come out of the shadows and get involved, you're missing out...
Oh about me, you say? (Sorry...)
Dabbled with photography on and off for many years, no formal training apart from 2 failed attempts at an A-Level, due to lack of money and transport issues! Favourite subjects are panoramas, night photography, urban exploration / documentary photography and recently live music photograpy. Just set up my own website with a view to appearing more professional ;-)
Alcoholic Link Fact, I hear you cry?! - I work for a wine importer and drink it by the case!! But only the good stuff ;-)

My favourite subject is defiantely live music although am recently getting into portraiture too. I also do a lot of theatre/film documentary shoots as well.
Looking forward to seeing more of everyones work and learning from it!

Hi guys
I'm by far the geatest photographer you will ever have the privelage to know and had to leave the UK some years back when the tax payments on my work became too much to bear.
Ok, maybe not, born in Bolton, dragged up in Dorset and a resident of Manchester for 15 years, I now live in Moscow with the odd sojourn in Paris.
Despite being a bit of a globetrotter, Manchester will always be home to me, honestly, there is no place on gods earth I have lived that comes remotely close to the place, though San Francisco is pretty cool too.
I have yet to attend a meet but will be flying back for either Xmas or New Year and hope to imbibe a beverage or two with you guys then!

Afternoon,
Welcome to all the newcomers!
I'm Adam (predictably), honourary Manc from Leeds, been getting into photography since March (and on Flickr since then), no training but lots of enthusiasm and practice :o) I'm really into doing street candids especially and city photography but pretty much enjoy trying to make anything look good; I'd like to try and do more portraits of people in their environments at some point.

Duncan. Capricorn. Blue Eyes. Born in '74, not 74 years old, although I have apprently confused at least one forum member who thought I realy was 74 from the 'old man' comments I allegedly make.
Got back into photography about a year ago after a 15 year break. Used to do a lot as a kid and was the youngest member of the Hull Photographic Society, back in the days of film and chemicals (in fact it was probably the chemical sniffing that was the main attraction at that time!). Now fully digital, but hate anything other than the minimum post processing.
I shoot quite a few triathlon events as a race photographer on a weekend, and on the odd occasion that I've not injured myself then do Ironman / half Ironman triathlons. Next one is New Zealand in March.

Hi,
I'm Jo, science teacher & flickraddict. Married to Mr Mojo, living in Hulme with our 2 dogs. I've been into photography for a year now & joined flickr in about April 07. Have made some really good friends, especially in the Manchester group - what a friendly bunch :)
I'm quite varied with my photography, but I particularly enjoyed doing lots of portraits at festivals this year & hope to build on that next year.

Been on here since 2005 but only joined this group earlier in the year. I like to take black and whites, mainly architectural and building shots but I love landscapes too. Just never really get the chance to take them any more.
Studying at City College too, aiming to get my BTEC Certificate this year and get the Diploma next year. I love using film and developing my own stuff but getting more and more hooked on the digi SLR.
This group is fab, I honestly don't know what I did all day at work before I joined : )

I stuck my first photo on Flickr in Jan '07 and have been a total addict ever since.
I've learnt more from the Manchester group than is decent. I would heartily recommend here as a starting point on your journey to better photography.

Hello - jon, jonwild, jonathan if I'm in trouble. Got an SLR for my 15th birthday, wore it out through the 80s, lapsed in the 90s, rediscovered via digitial a couple of years ago which was when I got onto Flickr.
My thing is travel photography, but when that's not happening it's buildings and anything that doesn't move, usually in Manchester or Oldham.
Found this group a year ago and it's a constant source of inspiration, humour and some great new contacts and friends. Welcome all!
I'm also proudly on the very wonderful (but quite scary) onexposure.

I'm Eddie a 75 Capricorn (a slightly newer, cheekier vintage). Came to Flickr by accident as was trying to find out who had done some pasteups in Manchester. I and found out the artist was called Swoon via some New York dudes web-blog which subsequenlt linked to his Flickr account and the rest is history.
Soooo love photos of streetart in particular stencils and had take literally hundreds till my point and click exploded after D-Percussion. Now have a grown-ups DSLR which I'm still getting to grips with.
Went to the first Manchester meet and have loved seeing the posse grown and all the photos that everyone does.

Hello whoever's reading this, I'm Mark, but on Flickr my friends call me bitrot. I am married to Mrs Bitrot and together we have invented the marvellous Little Bitrots. My age is none of your ruddy business, but with some careful application of pie-eating I'm managing to make sure it never quite catches up with my waist measurement.
I take photos of all kinds of things really. I like to think I keep trying new things but I'm still not great at pointing the camera at actual people. I love doing in-camera effects such as long exposures. I also try to keep some of my stuff humorous. :¬)
I use a Canon but I am very tolerant of all other religious persuasions, even Nikon. (My other camera is a Nokia and my other other camera is a £6 DIY plastic pinhole.)
I like children, animals and helping the poor and hope to be a nurse.

Fairly new to the group (discounting lurking) - am a big fan of the meet ups - they are great fun - Flickr took on a new dimension for me once I started to meet some like-minded people and get out there learning from them - great fun and nice people .
I have a blog at www.phojus.net for anyone who may be interested.
I lurve Crumpler and just started a group for fellow Crumpler addicts - hint hint

I'm Alex, and I won't be here much longer :-( I've been living in Manchester for 11 years, but I just got a job in the south-west (based in Wiltshire, but I'm buggered if I'm living amongst a bunch of sheep-shaggers, so I'll probably move to Bristol), so I'll be leaving in month. I shall therefore be reliant on this group to provide my fix of Manchester, and feed my home-sickness.
I've only had a camera for a few months, although I'm now on my third one in about four months. I'd quite like to be able to photograph everything (something, anything!), but my friends are all photophobic miserable bastards, so I generally end up taking pictures of things that can't run away or hit me (buildings, trees, sleeping friends). I seem to do a lot of photos at night, but I think that's as much to do with the fact that it's normally dark when I finish at work as the fact that I like skulking in the shadows. Although that's true too. I go to a lot of gigs (or try to, anyway), so I take quite a few photos when I'm there. Not many of them actually look good, but that's another matter entirely.
I think in an effort to meet new people in Brizzle, I may look into some kind of photo course, as I'd like to know what all the buttons on my camera actually do.

Thanks for the link. Actually, as a seventeenth-century historian (that is, a historian of the seventeenth century, not a historian from the seventeenth century who has suddenly emerged blinking into a strange new world where the carts move without horses, and everybody thinks they're a bloody artist) there should be plenty more architecture of professional interest to me down there than there is up here.
And as I'm leaving behind both of all of my friends, I shall be back as often as I can persuade one of them to offer me a bed for the weekend (that'll be once each, then!).

Aye oop folks,
Well, I'm Mark as you probably deduced from my Flickr "handle" (I'm not very imaginative when it comes to this sort of crazy username malarky). Like Eddie, I'm a '75 Capricorn.
I've been into photography for a while but never really had the patience to learn properly with film. Took the plunge into digital when DSLRs became affordable to mere mortals and am on the Canon side of the fence. Joined Flickr earlier this year and am now officially addicted. Been on a few meets and will pop up next at the "after dark" thingy next Friday.
What do I like to photograph? Well, my passion would have to be nature photography - birds, animals etc. but since that takes a lot of effort, I'll happily snap most things that move and many that don't

im Jeni (very original flickr title eh? lol) im a bit younger than previous posters on here ('75 cancerian) ive been a member of this group for a couple of months i think - didnt know about the groups when i first joined up to flickr lol.
ive always enjoyed photography but just recently got into it a bit more and wanted to learn more than just point and shoot. i dont have a dslr camera but my fuji s6500 works for me. if i thought about it my fave things to photograph are probably landscapes and nature (animals/plants etc). i hate photographing people - dont really have the guts to photograph a stranger lol. dont mind photographing my kids, especially the older 2 who dont like having their piccies takn anymore (its a teenage thing i think).
would love to come to meets etc but im not good at meeting people, especially when its a large group. i also dont drive, live in ashton so can be quite tricky to get to places of an evening.

JamesEL here, which is, like, ultra shorthand for James and my other two initials. '77 vintage baldy. Like a few others here I've been lurking Flickr for a while since getting a new DSLR. I'm keen to get back into photography but always seem pushed for time, unfortunately. I'm also keen to join in on one of the meets but have missed several now. Gah! I sometimes see folk about town with a camera and wonder if its one of you! Will try and sort it out soon though.
As a Flickr novice I wondered what the deal is with asking to be someone's contact. I like loads of people's stuff - is it ok to just ask, with a suitable compliment/approach, naturally?
Keep up the good work.

I've already said hi in another thread but didnt really tell everyone what equipment i have and what im into...
My equipment...
Bodies: Canon 5D, 350D and 300D
Lenses: Canon EF 20-35mm f2.8 L , Canon EF-S 18-55mm, Sigma 28-70mm f4
I have been an events photographer for a few years now but I'd like to venture out into new things.
My next lens will be the 70-200mm f4 L so i can get candid shots and even venture into wildlife photography (with an extender), and a Canon 24-70mm f2.8 L to fill the range with up-to-date equipment.
I've joined the group because I'm eager to learn more.

Hi, new to the group, though not to flickr.
I started flickr when I was college to show photos relating to my art projects, though now it's turned into photos of all sorts!
I just have a Canon Ixus 5.5, pretty good for a point and shot digital, though it's no SLR! (I dream of an SLR, maybe one day!)
Mostly, my stuff has been determined by whatever art project I'm doing at the time, recently it's been urban/new towns.
Recently met someone from flickr accidently and it was weird, in a good way! Hopefully I'll meet some of you at some point too!

Hi all,
New-ish to the group (went to Flickrmeet 8) and new-ish (4 years) to Manchester (actually I can see it from our hilltop but we live in a village). 38 (going on 98 most mornings!) married.
Been into photos since 1990 or so but it took a back seat for a few years because we weren't allowed cameras at work. Now self-employed shopkeeper and I do a bit of photography business when I can, most making and selling blurb.com books.
Alc fact: I own an off license but can't drink a drop (gout!). Probably for the best. Pity I'm not allergic to chocolate too.
Look forward to meeting up again sometime.

Hello chaps,
I am a very old Capricorn of 1971 vintage* (what is it with all these Capricorns??) who lived in Manchester back in the eighties but has since turned to the dark side (Yorkshire!) and currently live astride the pennines at Huddersfield with my other half Tony, but still make it down to civilisation once in a while.
I joined flickr earlier this year and didn't really know what it was all about other than storing photos, so have been very pleasantly surprised by the great community I've found here. I've only been to one meet (the massive one!) and was made very welcome there so I would encourage any other newcomers to come along too if they can.
I've always liked a bit of photography but have only really got involved with the advent of affordable good quality digital (its a gelatine thing) since 2005. Technically I'm bobbins as far as cameras and most other things go, but have been told I've a good eye so I just wing it on that!

Hey there ,
I’m Zach, and I live in Hulme with my long suffering boyfriend Andy .
I am 34 years old, which may surprise you as I am often mistaken for being no older than 21. I am fairly new to photography and learning all the time. I can see how my hobby has developed with advice, skills and comments from the very helpful people on here. I think I have become better, but often let myself down with a crappy shot. But I think we have all been there. I just have to learn not to post them…
What I adore about the Manchester group is that it makes me more serious about the stuff I do, especially posting to this group. I would love to be more ‘serious’ in style and in application of my photography, but sometimes, I find ‘serious’ to be a bit difficult for me.
I have been very lucky to meet people from Flickr – either locally or nationally (and next year, internationally). Although, there is no place like home, and through this group I have met a fair few of you and proud to call some of you friends.
Please note, that contrary to most of my self portraits, I do actually wear clothes (most of the time) and I do own more than one pair of orange star underpants . Also, judging from the amount of shots I do with fake blood.I am actually a scaredy cat and would scream my tits off if I saw real gore. Or Al Gore.
One day I will grow up – but not just yet

Hi Waka Jawaka here.
I'm a decrepit, 50 odd year old who has recently started to get back into photography with the advent of the affordable DLSR. I've been to one Flickr meet and really enjoyed it but unfortunately other commitments have kept me from any subsequent ones. I'll be back though.
This group is great, with a wide range of styles and abilities. The humour is great and the enthusiasm is brill. Any technical queries are usually answered quickly and all in all it's wonderful.
I think of it as a camera club on the 'net without the pernickety chairman and treasurer frowning at your snaps.

Warhead = Bill, 54, resident of Manchester since birth. Joined flickr very early on because I knew one of the site developers who invited all his mates to subscribe. Used (and still do) an Olympus point'n'shoot to for a while before joining flickr and splashed out on an Olympus DSLR last year when I wanted to do more than the pns was capable of.
No preference for what I shoot, though I do like taking shots from the office, 11 floors above Piccadilly, if there's something interesting going on.

Hope to take more picture around manchester, quite hard to be original though!! Would like also to do night meet and take nightshots too, as not too brave to venture out in the dark streets on my own.

Greetings all.
I've been pressing the button for over thirty years now (Ooh my finger hurts ;-) ).Although i live in the burbs i was born in Salford and that's where my heart is.Some of you will have seen some of my pics already, under a different name. This is because depression,my worst enemy, means i tend to periodically delete my account. So if i suddenly disappear you know why.And i promise i'll get to a Flickr meet one day.
Oh i forgot to mention i'm partially colour blind. So if my pics don't look quite right (colour wise) you know why.I rely heavily on P/Shop auto adjust when i'm editing.

Welcome, one and all!!
saiful kay and iman > You're in good company here as a toot fan!
Good on you! Flickr's great for inspiration, and Manchester UK seems to cover a lot of diverse bases, from architecture through night-time shooting to men in their pants - we've got it all!
Very frank and honest - I hope you find us all a friendly and encouraging bunch.
Hope you'll all make it along to a meet-up some time soon. :¬)
Cheers,
Mark

hello
i'm a pretty rubbish photographer but I love photography/images - all kinds but especially reportage, portrait, nature, travel. Worked in a photo library for a while and was in heaven. Far too critical of my own stuff to ever let myself get anywhere and find looking at other people's work soooo much more interesting.

Suuuup!
I'm Nathan.
For a small boy, my hair and carbon footprint are a bit large.
Lived in Manchester forever. Though I'll leave it next summer for the US.
I play guitar, harmonica, and that pear shaped porcelain flute thing.
Apple Inc, Japanese culture and Alexa Chung lookalikes induce smiling.
I like to photograph shiny things and large cities.
Oh, and I judge people based on how they text message.

Hello, I'm will and I'm a photographer
...and probably an alcoholic. About 5 months I finally splashed out on a DSLR and never looked back! I've posted a few of photos so check them out. I like to photograph any sport that i'm involved in and anything beautiful in nature or manmade, so in general quite a mix. I'll try to be at the next meet and absorb as many useful tips from the wise ones as possible!
It's clear from this group that there are many talented people in Manchester, and I have been using group photos as inspiration to get out there and get shooting

Hi.
I'm David but only my family and the folk at work call me that. To everyone else I'm nogger. I don't say much, normally.
I'm into beer, motorbikes, and photography. All of which I've dabbled in on and off since the early Seventies. Well. Ok. Just the photography, really. The other two have pretty much been constants.
Currently use a Canon 350D which I won in a competition here on the 'net with a photo, taken after I'd had a couple of beers, of a motorbike being ridden through a wall of flame. (My excuse is there weren't many entries and 99% of the entrants failed to grasp the theme and posted sunsets or shots of their kids.)
So if you want to blame anyone for the photos I post, blame the guys at the National Geographic Channel website for encouraging me.

Hi,
I got into photography about 2 months ago, since I bought my camera I am amazed at how many great building and places there are in Manchester. I have started noticing streets and the architecture I have walked past for years (decades) in a totally different way. I grew up in longsight in the 70’s and 80’s.

I'm not so much new to the group, just changed my account from anoisyracket.
I'm a bad lurker, though.
Always up for a chin wag and meets, it's more fun having another around with a camera who spots little things you do as well.

Hi I'm Niall
I'm a nerdy Media student ast Salford Uni, I've been interested in photography since an early age but in recent years my interest has been growing rapidly (if only my knowlege had done the same). My interest comes from a cinematic direction due to my course and interests but thankfully there's a lot of complimentary skills
I started with a Fuji f610 which was cheerful and compact and nice but quite restrictive, then I started using an old OM10 that I love and still use to this day. Now I'm on a Canon EOS400D and blundering through with the kit lens.

Ummm, well, I have to come clean and confess that I joined this group under false pretenses as I don't live in Manchester but in Cheshire. But I work in Manchester and I do like the discussion threads and photos in the pool, so a big hello to everyone.
Who knows, one day we may even meet ;-)

Hi all. I've been a member of the group for a while but I'm more of a lurker than a poster! I started using flickr after my wedding in 2006 but began a photo a day project in March of this year while I was off work with a knackered ankle.
I'm a teacher and I'm not Mancunian! I'm Yorkshire and proud but moved here to study teaching in 1998 and married a Wiganer so stuck this side of the Pennines for a while.
I don't really have a favourite type of photo and I'll try anything! I'm just a point and shoot girl really, with the odd black and white edit when I'm trying to be clever!

HI there..
I'm liking the 5100 so far, it takes great daytime pics in auto mode.. am still trying to get to grips with the manual settings tho, especially at night!.. but then again, the auto pics are usually great quality so no need to overload my brain working them out just yet. wish I could switch the display off for just using the view finder, is kinda off putting, but sure i'll get used to it
Have been using an Olympus SP510 which I do like, its idiot proof and easy to use.. but is very bulky, this one is a handy little camera for sticking in your pocket..

Hi
I'm a Londoner living in Oxfordshire but have worked in Manchester several times in the last few years and have got to know and love the centre.
Now shooting with a Samsung GX-10 but somewhere have a load of photos taken with my old Olympus 4Mp. If I still like any I'll post some.

hi, i'm Darren.
i grew up in levenshulme as a small boy, but i now live in cheadle doom which nestles in the foothills of cheshire.
i like collecting cameras and rekkids, but mostly rekkids. which i play at a club night called invest in property.
my most recent photographic purchase was a Horizon 202 panoramic camera. which i've yet to learn how to use properly.
my most used and favourite cameras are my Lomo LC-A and an old Olympus OM-1n.
i have never owned a digital camera. although i'd quite like a nikon d40x or a ricoh grd. hopefully santa will bring me one, but probably not. maybe he'll give me the money instead, to put towards one.
:o)

What else is new?
That, I'm hoping, I can find out!
Oh .. I lived for some 25-some years in San Francisco, but have lived in North Dakota now for about 25 years (yes, I left Manchester and ye-olde-ill-reputed-Burtonwood, around 1958)

My name is Ian, I am 42 but will be 43 by the end of the year. I've been into digital photography since 2001 and have been using Fotopic for a few years. Having seen how Flickr offers more of a community, I've decided to invest in a two year trial.

As the name suggests I work as a chef and for the last 30 years doing split shifts and weekends, now however started working straight shifts ,,,( I have a life!!).. so could possibly meet up with you all (if you’ll have me) when you have the flikr meets.
Big thanks to Osdog and Max for inspiration and to you all really. Been a bit of a lurker not a poster but must get more prolific in all depts. In the New Year
Oh yeah thanks to Simon Trahar for last term at college a bit skittish in the organisational side but a cool guy all the same

Hi everyone, I'm Dave I'm 24 and a native of Stockport but I've lived in Rusholme, Hyde and Higher Blackley for varying amounts of time over the last 4 years and I currently reside in Prestwich. I've been taking photographs for 5 years or so but I only upgraded from my fully manual 35mm SLR which was older than me to my 400D 6 months ago and since then I've been learning a lot quicker suffice to say. I'm still using the kit lens but will be upgrading very soon once I've decided, more choice than money as ever! I take my camera out as often as a can but I'll likely be getting a new compact at some point so I'll never need to stop.

Hi all, just joined the Flickr manchester group and am dead into strobist.com, If i had the equipment and clients it'd be 24/7 photography! Basic reason of joining is to get a strobist meet happening in manchester and get everyone to share photography and get better through knowledge and perhaps make some friends along the way.
I mainly practise by working for a night club photography website which keeps me thinking and working with light. Editing hundreds of photos a week and basically keeping as active and learning everything i can.
Hope to see you all soon!

Hi - I`m Dave, I joined the group fairly recently and am amazed at the quality and variety of the pics ! I`ve been interested in photography since my teens ( which believe me was a long time ago ! ) when I started doing B & W in the school darkroom. Since then have had a variety of cameras culminating in my recent purchase of a 400D which was to replace my ageing and faulty film Canon AE1 SLR !
My main interests are buildings/industrial heritage and transort in general ( more particlarly cars of any description but mainly 1970`s supercars ! ).
I currently live near Bolton but work in Manchester which gives me plenty of opportunity to get out and about and add to my Flickr site.
Looking forward to contributing even more regularly - so please feel free to add me as a contact.
