About Malls of America
(NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE MALLS OF AMERICA BLOG)
Documenting, preserving, and remembering traditional American shopping malls, dead or alive.
This group is designed to bring architecture and retail fanatics together, as while some shopping malls may appear similar, no two are alike.
This group is open to photographs of:
-Traditional enclosed shopping malls built from the 1940s through the 1990s
-Vintage views of said shopping malls
-Said shopping malls as they appear today; alive or dead.
-Memorabilia or artifacts from these shopping malls (business cards, shopping bags, maps, brochures, postcards, etc.)
A "traditional" mall is defined by this group as:
"A large, complex building that is home to at least one anchor tenant (typically a department store), with an attached enclosed or outdoor corridor housing more retail on both sides of the corridor."
Examples of an enclosed mall:
Mall of America (Bloomington, MN)
Southwyck Mall (Toledo, OH)
Gurnee Mills (Gurnee, IL)
Examples of an outdoor mall:
Old Orchard (Skokie, IL)
Ala Moana Center (Honolulu, HI)
This group is NOT for images of modern "lifestyle centers" or strip malls.
