after joining the group Hardcore Street Photography and spending time in it, and reading, a few months ago i picked up a book called Magnum Degrees, to get an idea of what is so special about the magnum photographic agency photographers. it really was close to one of those life changing experiences for me, in as much as it heavily influenced a direction i began to take my photography--i found that it had touched something inside that i was in tune with. i was immensely impressed, at both the imagery and diversity of the photographers and their work. one constant theme was there, however, was an excellence, a certain something that you knew the photo was "magnum worthy".
i\'m hoping to see quite a bit of great photography in the group, either inspired by, or near on par with that of the magnum agency, and as such, it will be quite heavily edited by the admins.
i would also appreciate lively discussion on the photos (in or removed:), what is and what isn\'t magnumesque...heated debates can be fun as well. :-)
basic foundations:
unmanipulated photos -- using an adapted www.photo.net/photodb/manipulation. all the same with one major modification--cross processed photography is accepted! the point being, no photos manipulating the "intent" of the original shot. as a guideline, it's likely that obvious post-manipulations will be culled. (feel free to discuss this, however! :)
please no unnatural borders (i.e. fake borders--natural passepartout allowed)
please, no more than 2 photos/day. the goal is that at least once a week, the group will be culled.
it may help to add a tag, "stmagnumesque" or somesuch, to keep track of your submissions. if we see the same photo we deleted reappear, we'll delete it again. don't wear on our nerves, please:)
