Good idea. The only news is that I've introduced us to the organizers of Art Walk and they seemed receptive. Been a while since they promised to get back in touch, so I'll rattle the cage and see what's going on.

Have we talked to any other galleries, or are we waiting to get the show together first? Or, are we approaching one gallery at a time?

We gave the BMA first dibs. I wanted us to do ArtWalk no matter what.
I've talked about it a bit with Wendy at Bare Hands but haven't actually asked her for anything. Other possibilities have been mentioned but not discussed.

Hey y'all,
I find the idea of a group show interesting, but I'm very much an amateur and don't know if any of my pics are worth submitting. If you see anything I've done that you care to include, just drop me a line. I'd be very flattered and happy to contribute.

the bare hands deal seems like a no-brainer. what are the economics involved?

Bare Hands is a non-profit with a mission to support Alabama artists. They do have a stable of artists and book shows well in advance. There are two scenarios with Bare Hands that I can imagine.
1. We hold a one night event either between shows or on top of another show. We wouldn't use the walls so much, but would have a few projectors and maybe some PCs or blackberry's or something to promote interaction with flickr during the event. It's possible that individual photographers could bring prints to sell from folios, but not a lot of hanging framed prints.
2. We could try to get on the schedule for a formal exhibition, in which case we would focus more on framing prints of the best work to represent the group. This would be more like a traditional photo exhibit, but we could aim for some kind of interactivity. The opening could be a lot like scenario 1.
As for economics, I think our members can be expected to contribute enough to put on a party. (get some food and drinks, hire a band, etc). As long as projectors were a one-night thing and not a month-long thing, I feel pretty good about scraping that together without big bucks. Setting up a WIFI network and providing a lot of interactivity... pretty much over my head - but we have people who know how to do it.

I think we should confirm space and dates for the show and have a meetup to discuss details. Or maybe I'm just lonely and want to go out to eat with a bunch of Flickr people.

ArtWalk is September 8 and 9. I expect to be meeting with them soon to discuss how we can participate.
Any additional shows, we'd need to work out amongst ourselves. If someone wants to be bold and book a date, we'll do what we can to make it work.

One recommendation. I would appreciate if everyone would limit their submissions at this time (made by using the "groupshowinclude" tag) to 20 per person. There's no guarantee we'll stick to that limit in the show, but it makes it easier to look through the set. 20 should be more than enough to show yourself off, don't you think? If not, try substituting mosaic collages for individual images or something. Thanks.

ArtWalk is overbooked on spaces. Does anyone have any ideas for spaces within the ArtWalk sphere of influence that might be available for us September 8-9?
I'm still hopeful.

Regarding spaces near the Artwalk site, you could always check with spots like Metro Bistro or--even better since they have that nice upstairs space--Safari Cup. They're a few blocks from Artwalk proper, but Metro especially gets a lot of business during those two days. You would just need to make flyers or something to distribute around Artwalk that would let people know where you are. If you do find a spot, be sure to keep the Artwalk people updated in case there are any crosspromotional opportunities.
