About The Dream of the Magi
This group focusses on two iconographic topics
The Dream of the Magi - The dreaming Magi are warned by an angel about the intentions of Herod.
The Adoration of the Magi - The Magis have reached Bethlehem, the place of the nativity.
During the medieval epoch the iconography of the "dream" / warning had its maximum diffusion, while "the adoration" is still popular today. As "modern" art is not what this group is created for, the works of art seen here should be medieval (or earlier, but not later than 1550).
It would be very helpful, if you could add the tag "dream" or "adoration" to your photos, what makes it easy then to sort them.
Of course geo-information is always very helpful.

Though in the canonical Gospels the appearance of an angel is not described explicitly, the Apocrypha does it, the Pseudo-Matthew for example:
11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route". (Matthew 2)
"And while the magi were going on their way, there appeared to them the star, which was, as it were, a guide to them, going before them until they came to where the child was. And when the magi saw the star, they rejoiced with great joy; and going into the house, they saw the child Jesus sitting in His mother's lap. Then they opened their treasures, and presented great gifts to the blessed Mary and Joseph. And to the child Himself they offered each of them a piece of gold. And likewise one gave gold, another frankincense, and the third myrrh. And when they were going to return to King Herod, they were warned by an angel in their sleep not to go back to Herod; and they returned to their own country by another road". (The Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew)
