Beneath the compositional structures of street photography, intertwined amongst its simple complexities, cradled in the multiplicity of its interactions of people and environment, is abundant and scarce humanity, life. Life that some may call unusual, though I tend to consider it as “the forgotten usual”. m a d e i n p u b l i c is a consummation of life brought to our attention again. A consummation of life m a d e i n p u b l i c… about the public for the public.

m a d e i n p u b l i c is a group for street photography whereby street photography is defined both acutely and simply by me. As the name, m a d e i n p u b l i c suggests, photographs submitted to the group pool should be sustained primarily on a street aesthetic, though this does not specifically mean, photographs submitted to the pool, should come from a street environment. Think outside the walls of conformity and the formality of words; widen your horizons to see street photography as a vehicle of familiarity. A familiarity we have to some degree, become desensitized to.

m a d e i n p u b l i c is a curated group pool. The essential idea not to define a specific pathway for street photography but, rather to explore its diverse evolution, relative to the world of today and where applicable, yesterday. This curated exploration will be exampled with your submitted photographs as defined acutely and simply by me. That said, curating the pool is also intentional, as a means of maintaining a high standard of street photography in this group to be absorb visually and intellectually. Don’t take it personally if your submission doesn’t make into the group pool.

m a d e i n p u b l i c is a group pool of conscious street photography. Consider the integrity of your photographs before you submit them. Evaluate the palpability of your photograph, its composition, its thought-processes and how the observance of everyday life equates to “the forgotten usual”. Excessive post-production that overlaps and or creates new realities, is not, what m a d e i n p u b l i c is about. I want to make it clear, m a d e i n p u b l i c is not a dumping ground for photos; there are plenty of those elsewhere in the flickrverse.

m a d e i n p u b l i c group pool submissions should NOT BE…. abstract, expressionist, floral, HDR, hip-shot, homeless street people, landscape, pornographic, portrait, or seascape photographs. As curator I can not accept submissions that have post produced borders. The reason being so group members, general flickr members and the public at large can visually and intellectually absorb a photograph. Thus ensuring it is the content of the photograph that is visually and intellectually absorbed, without direction and or influence of a border/frame.
