This is the place for your very best Manchester shots - the ones that truly deserve that time-honoured seal of quality, Made in Manchester!
The group is truly open to all. If you're reading this and not sure whether to take the plunge, please take time to read a couple of FAQs below...
Q. Is my photo good enough for Made in Manchester?
A. If you think it is, it is!
Made in Manchester is proudly snobbery-free! We're all amateurs, and this group is all about encouragement, not criticism. Hopefully with the right encouragement we all get to be better photographers. Isn't that what Flickr is all about?
Q. Is Made in Manchester competing with other groups like Manchester, UK?
A. Absolutely not!
In fact, Made in Manchester is brought to you by the same people who keep Manchester, UK ticking over.
Q. So why two groups?
A. Manchester, UK is a big social group which is proud to have no posting limits or other restrictive rules. As a result, the pool is a lot like Manchester itself - big and bustling, with photos surging past like Market Street shoppers on a Saturday afternoon. We like that: it makes it the place on Flickr to find everything about Manchester.
However, sometimes that means you don't see the wood for the trees. Our photos fly past too quickly to pick up any comments - and we all like comments! They make us feel special and help with that encouragement/becoming-better-photographers thing we mentioned earlier.
Hence Made in Manchester. The only limits here are that we ask for your very best photos - the ones you really want comments on - and we limit it to 1 per day. That way traffic should be slower but more considered, and we all stand a better chance of getting noticed. For that reason we also ask (but don't require) that every time you post a photo you look at some more and leave comments on one or two.
Put another way, Manchester has a fine tradition of gilding the lily: of taking a great thing and adding a special little something extra to make it spectacular. (For examples, please consult the helpful diagram below.) We're hoping that Made in Manchester can become the icing on the already scrumptious cake that is Manchester, UK. :-)
