A better way to manage multiple iPods from 1 iTunes. The checkboxes are great but there are only 1 set of them.

They could really do with improving the performance of quicktime playback for video podcasts. Watching one whilst playing another in the background is beachball-land.
Also, I want a wall of separation between podcasts and music. I don't want podcast tracks in the Artist column.

I would like to see playlists broadcast over the network between iTunes users. I run a music server on my Mac Mini and I'd like to be able to listen to those playlists on my PowerBook.

An iTunes "familypack" where a whole family can put their music on the same machine, and listen to each others music.

Is it possible and simple to access the same iTunes library from different users on the same machine? I had trouble with that before, and if it is not, it surely ought to be.

Agreed. The multi-user capabilities are lacking. There should be one shared library of music, with playlists that can be shared and those that are personal. Separated ratings and play dates/counts by user would be cool too.
I would like to be able to have multiple genres per song.
I would also like to be able to better refine the artist fields so that, for example, "Dan Bern" and "Dan Bern & the IJBC" show up in the artist list as the same artist, but are actually tagged correctly. Also, songs that are "Artist XYZ" but have a "featuring" or "with" or ... on a single song in the album can be more easily sorted out.
I would like to have even more flexibility in searches and smart playlist creation (give me the power of regular expressions!)
OK, that's my short list that may actually happen.
I would also like to see iTunes support FLAC. But that'll probably never happen.

True gapless playback.
FLAC/Ogg Vorbis support, or at least ability to convert them to Apple Lossless/MP3 repectively.
A more powerful search, including regular expressions and multiple searchstrings.
Support for Artist Pictures.
Sub-genres like on iTMS.
And so on, and so forth.

Yes lack of gapless support really should have been fixed a long time ago. Especially annoying on an iPod.

A keyboard shortcut to update your iPod!

a lot of these things are unlikely, because of DRM. and perhaps lack of experience in these areas.. for instance .ogg vorbis.
this will open peoples eyes to other, and debatably better formats.
then this will confuse consumers who might feel like they're getting poor quality downloads and want the stuff playable on their iPod.
the keyboard shortcuts sound nice, as does gapless playback.. i really don't understand why that hasn't been implemented.
the rating thing sounds complicated, and might be hard to implement on old iPods.. there's nothing wrong with taking an average of all the song listins though, that could be useful.
with only 5 stars though is it really that important? i think it's verging on super lazy now, i can't think many people would use a feature like that.
play counts are a better indication of a songs superiority..
i'd like to see stability when upgrading to a new version of iTunes most of all, i've lost my playlists, counts, ratings and everything else twice now.

Including Vorbis support without a plugin would be great. I don't care what the Apple store uses, but ripping to Ogg and having the iPod able to play it would be great.
Other than that, I'm cool.
I don't even use the rating feature -- too much clicking for me.

Count me in on the Artist X. feat./with Artist Y issue. I shouldn't have to make a single artist album a compilation just because it features a guest on a couple of tracks.

Automatic detection and seperation of hidden tracks, the dock icon showing the album art of the song you're listening to, the itunes widget not being so painfully slow.

yes! some way to actually seperate out hidden tracks, or at least fast forward straight to them after the first track is over.
There is nothing more annoying than being away from your desk and realising that the 4 minutes of silence was because of a hidden track.

If it did that they wouldn't be hidden any more! It's the one bit of creative control over your experience that the producer has left, now that you've shuffled the album song order, mixed the last 5 seconds with some other rubbish, and thrown his crafty equalisation out of the window. Nothing more annoying indeed!
Genre-as-tags would be my vote.

I would wish a random shuffle update would not copy any audio books to the iPod Shuffle as it is pretty useless if you got one chapter of Lord of the Rings on your iPod.
A better multi user support would be really appreciated as well.

I think that's a great idea Otomo. I use my shuffle feature all the time, and I hate when I get stupid stuff like audio books thrown into the mix.
These are all great ideas folks.
How about a better equalizer?
Something like an "iRadio:" An AM/FM receiver going into iTunes via USB for radio playback
Smart playlists that scroll… I’ve got smart playlists with so many specifics that it fills the screen and there’s no scroll bar (and the OK/Cancel buttons extend below the range of the screen!), so if I want to see the criteria that’s at the bottom I have to delete everything I entered up to that point…. If any of that makes sense.
For some reason some of my music files have disappeared over time. I can think of one specific album I’ve had that was deleted three times, every time I imported it. This has happened to several other people I know. I haven't noticed it happen again recently, so maybe the problem has been fixed.

How about a way to cue up the next song by having it highlighted. You could make a playlist, but if you're spontaneously going through your library and want to leave or do something but skip to another song next - that's impossible. Know what I'm saying?

For the people who were saying that random shuffle update puts audiobooks onto their ipod shuffles.
Just untick the boxes next to them so they don't get updated to your iPod...

Id like to have per-stream options for podcasts, IE keep all of one podcast but only the unheard of another and just last one of another etc etc.

I believe if you just set burning to data cd, itll simply burn it on whatever you put in the drive, dvd or cd. Ive not tried though.

As people have said, split music / podcasts and videos up in the library. What sane person would want podcasts and videos to appear in their party shuffle (or when on random on their ipod)?

a simple queue for saying 'jump to this song next instead of whatever is next in the playlist you happen to be playing'. It could just be a single keystroke. Something like party-shuffle, except much smaller, and with the ability to use it without having to actually switch to the party shuffle playlist. Also, the ability to just have it play one song and then stop would be nice.

•there needs to be better separation between music and video. it's weak to put on shuffle and have video pop up unexpectedly.
•there also needs to be a way to organize video the way you want to. i don't know why you can't categorize your own video as a "TV Show".
•there should be a way to manage the music on 2 different machines to work on the same ipod.
•if there were a way to select a song to be played next as you made your way around the library, that'd be great.
•the ability to place radio station links in the radio folder instead of having them sit in the library. (that bugs me out.)
•ability for songs that are 'deselected' on the computer to be deselected on the ipod.
i could go on and on....

These are at the top of my wishlist:
-Customized "radio" like launchcast, based on your ratings. Perhaps even a subscription service for the ITMS.
-Allow podcast updating even if you haven't "listened to the podcast in 3 days". Some of my podcasts are radio shows. In order for automatic updating, I would have to listen to the full 3+ hour program every day. As it is now, after 3 days iTunes thinks I stopped listening to it and stops updating it.
-Allow playback of iPod through iTunes on different computers. I want to listen to my iPod at work through my PC.
there are more, but those are my top 3.

There needs to be a way to edit the info of classical music better. Any time I import a classical CD when I download the track names and album info the tags are always screwed up (ie. the name of the piece is where the artist should be, and it usually repeats the same words in the title spot for every song). There needs to be a way to fix this without having to go through the tags of each individual song and fix each one.

I'd like to see a long standing iPod feature - cross-fading during playback - ported to the iPod. It would add to the flow on the go.

CiroNT you can often select more than one item in iTunes and edit them together by holding down the shift or apple keys and selecting various songs.

Alot of these problems can be cured by clever use of the Smart Folder. i.e Create a folder where it does not feature podcasts and audio books. Then get your shuffle to select from that folder. Also if your iTunes repeats songs then you can create a Smart Folder that 'last played' is 'not in the last' x days! That is a great tip!
Does that help?

One thing I find lately is that my Shuffle mostly adds two songs from each artist! I got 7300 songs in my library so why pic two songs from the same artist! This is despite adjusting the 'smart shuffle' slider to 'less likely'!! Help?
