About Festival of Lights / Lysfest (Bergen, Norway)

Lysfesten or "Festival of lights" is a family-friendly festival in Bergen (Westcoast of Norway) to celebrate the start of the Christmas season. It attracts about 30 000 people each year.

It consists of illuminating the lights on the christmas tree that stands in the center of the Lille Lungegårdsvann lake. A torch-light procession, a concert on an outside stage of festive songs and illuminated buildings around the lake add to the atmosphere. It is followed by a great fireworks display.

The festival is held on the Saturday before the first Sunday in the advent (end of November, beginning of December), and is organised by Bergens Tidende, one of the local newspapers.
