21 Oct 09 - I guess I should have posted pictures before I invited some people. It would have made it more inviting. I worked on these all night long. If you have nothing to contribute photographically, you can still join and lend moral support and encouragement to the people who will be doing the work of trying to repair and restore. Because this is a tragedy, I'm going to try a bit of levity and say, "I hope the Sheriff's Dept. will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of the vandals."

About Luper Cemetery FriendsLuper Historic Cemtery, off of Beacon Drive in North Eugene (called Santa Clara area), Lane County, Oregon had on the weekend of October 10 and 11, 2009 the most devastating cemetery vandalism I have ever seen. Nearly every stone was damaged or knocked over, broken, cracked or tossed about. One stone was even used in pieces to form a fire pit. Luper is an historic cemetery with pioneers from the Lost Wagon Train of 1853 buried in it. It is a treasure of history. I have no money to give them to help to repair and restore, but I do so many cemetery photos on Flickr and Findagrave that I thought I could call upon my cemetery loving friends to post whatever photos of Luper they may have ever taken, and see if we can't at least present a virtual presentation of how every stone (or as many stones as we can) should look when in place, and restored. This is my way of trying to help. Unfortunately, Luper is not one that I had ever been to, but I want to try to help. When I saw the damage on the news, I was ready to weep. Delina |
