About Ocean Exposures

Living Ocean Society invites you to enter your dazzling ocean photos in our 2010 digital photography contest. The contest runs from July 1 to September 30.

Follow this link to enter the contest: www.livingoceans.org/photos/default.aspx

We're looking for two categories of photos:

1. Ocean People
people working, living, or playing on, in or around the ocean
First Nations people enjoying traditional ocean related activities

2. Ocean Ecosystems
estuaries, eel grass beds, giant kelp beds, seabirds, intertidal life, barnacles, mussels, herring spawn, starfish, any fish or mammals (especially salmon), aerial photos of the ocean, bears fishing, and any other photo that captures the ocean environment.

If you have a great picture related to the ocean we’d love to add it to our photo library for use on our website and in future publications.

We’ll be giving away a Nikon Coolpix L21 Compact Digital Camera for the winning photo in each category.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer to enter the contest. Just take your camera with you on your summer adventures and send us any interesting ocean pictures.

Our Marvelous Judges

Ocean Ecosystem photos will be judged by Andrew S. Wright

I believe the challenge for the future is to learn that we are an integral function of the earth's eco-system and we must live within its biological capacity. This is the challenge for our generation to embrace and for us and our children to champion. I am based in Vancouver, BC and am very passionate about increasing conservation awareness for much of BC’s spectacular but threatened eco-systems.

Ocean People images will be judged by Brent Wellander of Kootenay Nature Photos
www.kootenaynaturephotos.com/blog/

I'm a nature photographer based in the Kootenay region of British Columbia. I developed a love for photography at an early age when my Grade 7 teacher provided darkroom instruction and had us create a manual on the photographic and developing process. Photography took a sideline until I spent a year on Haida Gwaii a few years ago, taking thousands of images of the local flora and fauna. My photos are nature-based, and include birds, landscapes and abstracts. The advent of digital photography has opened up a new world of image capture and manipulation for me, allowing much inspiration and experimentation when combining the real and the surreal.
