About London Council and Social Housing
Not simply council estates and houses in London - photos of London co-op, housing trust and sheltered accommodation all count. We are defining London liberally as the area within the M25.
Given the transitional state of housing now, it is often hard to know whether housing has been privatised. It should still qualify, though, if was originally built as social housing - this is all part of London's rich history. Squatting, though it may be seen as controversial by some, may also be an eligible subject - provided the emphasis is on structures, not demos and the like - it is part and parcel of the postwar housing movement in London, and led to the formation of many housing cooperatives and associations.
Many related images are also welcome. Pre- and postwar public housing was often associated with an overall set of public facilities - for example laundries, nurseries, health centres, district heating plants and even whole shopping precincts such as Chrisp Street. There are also many examples of public art (good and bad) associated with council estates - and of course there are mapboards, rubbish chutes, the remains of air raid shelters, and more.
But - whatever the aspect of social housing you have captured, please ensure that it is the main subject of the photo. For example, images of London tourist scenes that just happen to have a couple of tower blocks peeping over the horizon are not eligible and will be subject to removal by the admins.
It's not obligatory, but it would be nice if you provided some background information on the shot, in the caption/title/tags - for example, estate/block name, location (of course), architect/borough, date of building etc. And it would be even lovelier if it were geotagged...
