I'll be in a bar after a day on the beach. Oh the stress of it.....
Another date further away from Paris would have been okay.
By the way, you might like to put 'June' in your title Adrian :-)

Adrian on your sunset & sunrise lines am a bit confused as the sun will be going down in west london - so thats gonna be facing west from Westminster bridge towards Hammersmith/Richmond area. And sunrise will come up in the morning facing eastwards towards docklands / Limehouse area - the orange & yellow lines seems to show this the other way around. So maybe your plan is to face up river at London/Tower bridge for the sunset - and then face eastwards on Westminster bridge towards city of London for sunrise at 5am?

Julian sunset should be looking over towards tower bridge/ tower of London from where we will be standing. It should then rise from Westminster bridge over London eye. Both Places I've shot from before. The lines are about right I've checked them from TPE Software

I've been really lazy with my camera in recent months - only been out two or three times this year so looking to get back into it and I've never done one of these all-nighters so I'm planning to get involved this time.
One question: I'm not sure I have the stamina to last all night, though I'm going to try. Is it sensible to drive into the city and park somewhere near the starting point so that if I tire at 3am and want to go home, I can drive home rather than getting on a night bus? And if so, can anyone recommend a free place to park (I'm assuming I should be able to park for free at the time I'll be arriving)

We have one food stop around 1.30pm where we can all catch our breath and have a bit to eat. we are walking towards the centre of London where bars and cafes are open so if you wish to stop half way that's know issue and then joins for sunrise.
As far as parking goes I've know real knowledge on this I'm afraid.

Mike shot this last year unfortunately, it adds to much into the walk trying to get there from to the sunset spot make it impossible.
It would be great as a shoot in it's own right, but not ideal as part off an overnight shoot.

Slight chance of plan for me. My friend and his daughter have to get home Saturday night now and my childcare for Sunday has fallen through meaning that I can't come home and just fall asleep after the all nighter. Can't face not being able to get any sleep until 10pm.
Therefore, I'll be with you for the first part of the evening....one of the many downsides of being a single parent :-(

I'm definitely intending on coming along now, unless it's thundering down with rain or anything. I've asked a couple of people in the know, and apparently Trinity Square just north of the river from the meeting point is a good spot to park at a meter which should be free after 6.30pm, so that's what I'm planning to do, so I have the option of leaving early if my legs/back don't hold out the whole night.
Adrian: would really appreciate if you have a spare print of the itinerary for me - I didn't see it until I'd left work and don't own a printer. Mind you, I'm pretty nervous about being in town with my equipment at night so I'll be trying to stay close to the group most of the time :)

What does everyone recommend in the way of lenses? I want to keep the load as light as possible, so I was thinking of bringing my 12-60mm and 7-14mm but leaving the 50-200mm and macro 35mm indoors. Does that sound sensible, or will I miss the telephoto if I don't have it?
Also, is it worth bringing the gorilla pod in addition to the full tripod, or is that overkill?
Posted 24 months ago.
|
|
I will have around 18 copies with me which should be enough. I really would not worry to much I've been to all of the over night walks and never had a problem. It's just about using common sense and being a little street wise. Most people end up splitting slightly on route. This is the main reason for meeting points. I can always give you my mobile tomorrow and at worse just follow the route and look out for a tripod or two.
On the tripod front those that know me will know I carry one with me almost all of the time in either in a normal or gorilla pod. Gorilla pods are light as to whether you would use that I'm afraid I can not answer. Though its light so should not add much more to bring it just in case. depends on how big/heave the lens it macro is no use but 55-200mm might be useful it is really up to you. Only you can tell how often you use it.
If anyone needs my mobile then drop me an email before 1pm and ill send it to you, .
