08 Feb 11 - Could we just remind potential posters to this group that we DO NOT wish to see posts of political demos, anti war protests, or anything or that nature. As has been stated before, this isn't political censorship, it just isn't what this group is about.

We are interested in any aspect of London's wartime past upto and including Cold War area bunkers etc. For London, we are really talking about the old GLC/LCC area or to make life easier, anything inside the M25 area.

About London at war

Anything pertaining directly to London's experience of war, including World Wars I and II - and perhaps the Cold War. We are defining London as the area within the M25, which is especially appropriate here, since the motorway approximately follows the line of London's outer defences in the second world war.

Especially welcome are surviving relics such as air raid shelters and signs for them, pillboxes and bunkers, and any remaining signs of damage from The Blitz and subsequent bombing. (Sometimes, this is subtle - it can be simply a change in a building that looked quite different before the war.) Archive material is also very welcome.

Also applicable to the group are war memorials - especially Blitz memorials - and museum pieces, re-constructions etc, though they should be directly relevant to the London theme in some way.

Please note that we interpret "war" literally. Material in which "war" is used in a metaphorical sense, such as the "war on drugs", "war on crime", "Class war", etc, will be deleted. Also no material that is too broad and is really about the UK in general, so no shots of anti-Iraq war demos, please.
