Fall colours in London
|
I'll be in London for a few days at the end of September (22-24), and was wondering whether this would be a good time of the year to get some nice fall colours from foliage, or would it be too early?
In case there is a chance of fall colours starting to show up, which would be a good place to shoot them? Some park, obviously, but does anyone know of any special spot?
Thank you.

Really it would be to early but things are changing. ferns are turning brown, yellow in the trees.
I can think of three places that might be helpful but others will come along with other suggestions.
1. Epping Forest
2. Kew gardens
3. Richmond Park

St James Park and Hyde Park might also be nice places to look for fall colors. I was in London from Sept 7 to 22 last year and it was bit early for the fall colors. So good luck to you.

Green Park is normally very good too - but end of October is the best time

Already seeing lots of Autumn colour, Hampstead, nice on the Heath today, too windy but looking good, or just wandering around.
Don't neglect the Street trees in London.

From wiki:
During the 17th century, English emigration to the British colonies in North America was at its peak, and the new settlers took the English language with them. While the term fall gradually became obsolete in Britain, it became the more common term in North America.
The word autumn comes from the Old French word autompne (automne in modern French), and was later normalised to the original Latin word autumnus.[7] There are rare examples of its use as early as the 12th century, but it became common by the 16th century.
So the English now use a French word and the Americans use the former English one...

Don't let anyone tell you it's too early to get Autumnal hues in London. I shot this on Sunday:

Due to an exceptionally hot spring and wet summer, Autumn has started early this year.
For a good spot in Autumn I always suggest the bridge in St James Park looking south towards the London Eye. You get the Autumn colors of the trees, the reflection of the lake and the nice contrast of Horeseguards and the London Eye in the background.
