Hello Londoners

I'm planning on taking the Hairy Goat Intermediate Photo Workshop in February and wondered if anyone here has any experience of them?

Thanks in advance

Interesting that they make a point of mentioning that they have 'CRB Full Discloser'. A sign of the times or just paranoia I suppose.

'Interesting that they make a point of mentioning that they have 'CRB Full Discloser'.' that is now mandatory where you are offering services to vulnerable people and is good practise in the teaching industry as a whole

I looked at their galleries too and thought there is a good spread of apparent skill sets and I know for a fact that someone's portfolio isn't a good indicator of whether they are going to be excellent photography teachers.

Julieanne I would look more at whether the content is suitable for you. I see from your exif data that you are already using shutter priority modes. I think this course would push you towards full manual as it explains metering etc. If that's what you would like then this course looks as good as any I've looked at.

Sorry but I'm with Cloudy too, what kills it even more is when you client on more info about him/her it is all about tour guide experience and not photography.

many years ago i took a C&G in photography - the first tutor's work was in my opinion rubbish - she was really into the techi side but not the image.
then we had Gene Austin for the final element of the course, she works at Morley College - she was amazing - i loved her work. Because her photographs woke a big fascination in her style, film cameras, developing etc - leant more from her in those final couple of months than i did all year.

I'm just saying, chose your tutors wisely - if they don't inspire you, then you wont learn much. After all, its your money you are giving them - you might as well give it to ( and learn from) someone whos work you admire.

I agree that inspirational teachers are brilliant but if you look at the course content:

Changing AF points
Understanding ISO
understanding metering
understanding colours
etc
etc

That isn't a photography course- it's a digital camera course and as such inspirational teachers are not that important - techi know-how is

Don't forget this is a 1-day course and not an ongoing relationship building event. I can believe that being inspired by great artists during a course lasting weeks have a huge effect but you cannot judge a 1-day event with that same measure

Either way Julieanne if you do decide to go let us know what it was like?

So the cost effective way would be read the camera manual and spend the £70 on a west end show and a decent meal ;).

True, we have all become suspects unless vouched for by these best practice checks. And is there a downside to this is ? Here's a link to an interesting article on the subject:

Thanks everyone!

Some good points and yes, I'm not looking to develop a relationship with a mentor, just a few hours getting to grips with reading my Histogram and then a fun photo walk. (Although I did look at the Tutors websites and liked what I saw)

I found lots of nice reviews for them on Trip Advisor. My NY resolution is to take a little time away from my business every now and again, so I am gong to book, should be fun.

- you are probably right, but the user guide for my 5D2 is so dull. I will be doing the slap up meal too . . .

I also am CRB'd, everyone will be safe :-)

Thanks again for all your replies, I'll let you have a review.
