I've been doing this for ages (as you've probably noticed if you've been searching on tags).

I know you're the pioneer on this dubmill - if anyone doubts this just look at dubmill's tags. It's almost a work of art:

Maybe we should have an exhibition, but just a display of our tags - reveals a lot about people. Some of them are almost poetic.

additionally geotagging is a way of adding global location identification to your photos.

Blows dust off old thread to ask a question...
Almost all of my UK pics are tagged with the first part of the postcode (Multimap is very good for finding ones you don't know).
For places outside of big cities, where there might not be a group for that area, I think it's a useful resource for finding other pictures in teh vicinity. Potentially it lets you do a slightly "fuzzier" search than using more precise lat/lon info in geotags.
But does CF33, for example, mean anything to most people. I wonder if a better form of tag might be "postcode:CF33" (c.f. geo:lat=12.34) to make it clearer what the intent is?
Does anyone else have any observations or suggestions?

Unfortunately, even the best ideas only work if they get widely adopted. I remember suggesting in the Cambridge group people tag their Cambridge (UK) photos "camuk" to exclude all the Massachusetts ones (and others) ... but it just didn't happen.
But if people tag both "London" and (separately) the first part of the postcode, maybe that would do - and at least people are more likely to do that.

I've always tried tagging my London photos with the first part of the postcode.

tagging with post codes only really works if you know what the post code is... If I visit oxford or cambridge, I don't really know what the post code is. In London, I might have a vague idea of that I'm in an 'EC' code, but f*** knows if I'm in EC1, EC2, EC3 or EC4.

Erm, surely the Flickr map feature would be better? I often visit London but have no idea about the postcodes. I can remember where I was and add photos to the map though.
