How to keep from overdoing it?

So this is my first attempt at faking the lomo look. My question is, how do you know when enough is enough and when you're overdoing it. Some of the best photos in this group have a hint of the lomo look. Other brilliant LFL photos take saturation and contrast to its limits.

Did I overdo it here? And do you have to have a hint of grain for your photo to be truly lomo?

I, personnally, kinda think it's a tad overdone, but then again maybe it's because your picture is very busy to begin with.

I'd try lowering the contrast and lightening it up, just a tad, just to see if it helps.

Then again, that's just me.

I think it's not overdone. The method I use (the instructions were posted in the Technique pool) look a little too automatic to me...the vignetting in the corners looks too standard, which I see you don't have in yours. I'll have to see some of the shots when I develop my first roll from my new Colorsplash camera and compare them to the Lomo fakes I've done in Photoshop.

If you'd said it was an analogue lomograph I'd not have challenged you. There is of course something of a gamut of 'lomographic' sub-looks so to speak and this immediately looks like the type where something is shot with perhaps a LCA, cross-processed and then a little pizazz is thrown in at the scanning and 'correcting' stage. In fact your fine example of a 'fake' here reminds me just how much the analogue lomographic look relies on a bit of digital help anyway ;-)

Why do you think that it's possible to "over-do" it? Isn't that the POINT?

Of course - when I was saying it's a tad overdone, I meant 'for my taste', not 'for the Lomo look'.

Of course you can't over-lomoize a shot: Lomo is supposed to be extreme, so in that sense, you're all correct.

I like it and agree with Kevin. I don't think you can over do it if you take a look at the regular lomo shots they vary from very saturated to sort of pale blues, yellows, and reds. So I think it's a matter of taste.

this saturation produces some gorgeous colours...sometimes, i begin PSing with the intent of creating a "faux lomo" but then i push it.
i think vignetting can be overdone, but enhancing the pic becomes more important than creating a convincingly fake lomo shot.

I really like the processing you did on this, the saturation looks great however there is something that bothers me about this image. Im a little distracted by the shelf on the right side, if you left that out I think it would be perfect. Otherwise, I think its a great shot.

I sometimes desaturate (photoshop CS2) and then lessen the desaturation so that the color isn't toooooo saturated. Does that make sense? ;-)

Do each step in a separate layer and when you are doneif you don't like something click each layer on and off till you find the layer with the glitch and lower the opacity on it till it looks like what you want. also play with layer mode.

i like how this picture looks, the only thing i'd add is some grain (i personally use the "gaussian disturb" in PS 8.0) and of course the... - how can i say? - black frame around the borders.
anyway, i don't think is possible to overdo, as first because the concept of lomography is really too wide to, then also because the lomo spirit is - imho - precisely to overdo... but that's my opinion, of course.
