fuck me that's a great project.
the biggest concern is the most obvious - will it crop badly? since 50mm is a wide angle in medium format (equal to 20mm), I have a feeling you'll get a spherical effect, MOST ESPECIALLY if it an aftermarket lens like Sigma that's designed for cropped sensor (they didn't put EF-S mount on it, just plan old EF).
if that failed, find a 50mm lens instead.
another thing is; why didn't you use the cheaper 120N model? the hotshoe addition would've made the whole package more desirable if it work.
p.s. can you reduced the image to half a size? some of us is surfing on 800x400 resolution.

you should post some results (in the smaller size of course) once you have them!

@edscoble
im pretty sure the lens that came with the holga is a 50mm... so it shouldnt be too bad, im only using 35mm film atm anyway (im cheap)
but i have tried it with a 12mm lens.... i cant wait to see how that turns out!!! :P

daadaa, try it this way
have you got a tracing paper? sellotape that on the back of the holga where the film will cover, and then open the shutter to see how the image should look.
mate if you're using 35mm film with a 35mm designed lens on a Holga, it's kinda backfired when you can easily purchase an EOS body for that.
try medium format to test out the image and if you're really cheap, just ask them to do 'straight to CD' when you want it processed, should only cost like a fiver.

im pretty sure i wont get any distortion, most of my lenses are manual FD lenses which ive converted to EF, so they are designed for film cameras, My tokina 12-24 is designed for cropped sensors, but it shouldnt distort much.
at the moment, the lens i have paired for this camera is a canon 50mm f1.4 FD which should take pretty nice pics.
I used this camera cus i wanted a flash built onto the camera. cus i dont like carrying extra stuff. 50mm 1,4 is small enough not to get in the way so thats y i used that. As for the hotshoe, ive already made one, i just need to go buy some adapter plugs/sockets to fit onto the camera :D

ok did a test,
cropping isnt gonna be my problem.... atleast not as bad as focusing!!!
i originally thought it wouldnt really matter as the shutter hole was pretty small in the first place..... but ....lol ohhhhh no, 50mm 1.2 is still a 1.2 :P

Try the "plastic fantastic" 50mm f1.8 mkII on it. That should make it to the "Shooting through the plastic lens" category.

tghe image is circular, normally it should fill the whole area from my Holga standard lens when I did that.
So I do think there's a big spherical centre problem.

... weird, the original lens is even worse... it might be because i moved the shutter back by about 5mm... this will be a huge problem if i have to increase the shutter size... urg

Remember, you're using an SLR lens, the SLR lens tend to be bigger becuase of the space between the negative and the lens - it's to give room for the mirror to move.
rangefinder, simple point and shoot camera like the Holga, LOMO LC-A etc. lenses are much closer to the negative and doesn't need to be quite big to compensate the distance between the negative and the lens.

the distance of lens to film between an slr to holga is surprisingly similar, only cus its a toy camera, but at the moment its not the problem with that, its the shutter.
the old shutter used to be right up the back side, almost where the aperture will be, so it doesn't crop, now, since moved the shutter, its starting to crop.since i cant exactly move it closer .. (cus ill hit the lens), ill either have to increase the shutter size or...... give up :P
