On the night of Saturday 22 October 2011, this bus was destroyed by fire near Desford in Leicestershire. Speaking as an observer from afar, I have no idea of the circumstances of this tragic loss and would suggest that you contact the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust for further info. You can also take a look at the Flickr group Leicester Buses & Coaches and Road Transport group, which is run by a member of the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust, Andy Tucker. If you have any photos of No.16 please feel free to post them there, I'm sure they'd appreicate that.
Growing up in Leicester, this bus was iconic for me. From a very young age this was my favourite bus, so I am much saddened to see its demise in this way. Surprisingly, over the years, I took only 3 photos of No.16.

As a young 10 year old, I remember writing to Mr Hilditch (the then General Manager, an icon himself) with my Dad to ask if I could "please" have a copy of the plans for No.16. Much to my surprise he replied, when a thick envelope arrived containing a copy of the original East Lancashire Coachbuilders plans photocopied into A4 sections. As a young lad I was totally surprised he had taken the time out to send them. I think I still have them to this day somewhere!
I have started a Flickr Gallery for No.16
