03 May 11 - hi little happies helpers! i am so sorry i have not updated this group for a while. life has been a whirlwind of road trips, plane trips and much work above, below and in between. i realize that the project was to end in april but i am going to extend through may. i have been collecting many happy thoughts along the way as well and will post them soon!

About little happies (aka: the happiness project).

here's the deal: it snowed. snow makes me happy.

this caused me to start thinking of other little things that make me happy and to want to take pictures of those things. and (pardon the pun) it's been a snowball effect. i just keep getting happier the more i think these happy thoughts and document them in photos.

sometimes a state of happiness needs to be intentional. to be consciously grateful for those little blessings. (it's really far too easy to let stress overtake you)

since i started doing this and really thinking of those little happy thoughts, i've started to also ponder the ways i can take those positive things and put a dimple or two on the world around me.

and so i began to ask myself, what makes me really really happy?

kids.

there is nothing more brilliant than the creativity, simplicity, and pureness of a child.

and it sickens me to think of a child that is abused. i don't think you need me to write anything about that.

so here is what i want you (and your friends and your friend's friends) to do:

• join my flickr group.

• think of the little things that make you happy. take pictures of these things. it's really fun to do and will only make you happier.

• submit the photographs (there is no limit!) along with a short story / caption / etc to the flickr group (why does this make you happy? what's the story behind it? or is it something that simply makes you smile?) and make sure to put in your full name and where you are from.

• do so by this date: friday, april 1 (2011).

• i will find a juror to help select the most print-worthy photographs (so please be sure that i can access them and that the files are large enough to look good in a book! You still own the copyright to the photos though, so no worries there).

• i will take said photographs and create a book of the happiest photos and stories ever seen or heard (using blurb or another such online publishing site).

• each book will be marked up with a profit of $20.

• all profits will go to this charity which works towards the prevention of and assistance with child abuse cases: www.preventchildabuse.org/

• tell your friends to do this too. the more people that participate, the happier we all will be and the more likely you, they and everyone's friends and families will be to buy a book, which means more money towards helping abused children and making them little happies too. plus it's just really cool to see your photography published in a book and sitting on your coffee table. think about it. (there is absolutely no requirement to buy the book though! if i'm the only one who purchases a book, so be it. there's $20 that charity didn't have before.)
