About Linden Alley Project

Eddie Colla and I first met back during the 2008 Presidential Election. At the time I was running an Obama art blog and Eddie was at the forefront of political Bay Area bombing. He had hit the wall previously with his Olympic games image (seen on the left) and we decided to revisit the spot to put up an Obama piece. In the year leading up to Election Day, Eddie plastered hundreds of Obama images throughout San Francisco and Oakland and during that time we made many pilgrimages to Linden Alley. It’s ideal location, high traffic and visibility made it one of our top destinations. Over the course of 2009 we revisited Linden alley many times, Eddie’s Anti-Prop 8 and Pro-Oscar Grant images were, and still are, important messages we wanted to spread.

Towards the end of 2009 we came down to Linden during the day to put up a massive piece he had recently completed – “Air”. Decked out in day-glo colors and equipped with official-looking certification, permits and cards we casually began pasting up the piece. About halfway through a truck pulled up and the driver asked us what the fuck we thought we were doing. I approached him and explained that we were artists with permits from such and such city organization and were just doing a street level art installation. The driver of the truck, Wes (who also happened to be the property manager), was so receptive to the idea (and also so against the illegal advertisements that cover his wall every week) that he invited us to come back and visit. With that the Linden Alley Project was born.

With a completely legal wall in a posh and high traffic area of San Francisco, the Linden Alley Project is looking to bring some of the Bay Area’s (and the world’s!) best street/stencil/graff/urban artists together for a monthly curated installation. We’ll be visiting Linden Alley on a regular basis, so please feel free to check back often.
