Who are you?
|
I did this in the Omaha: you are here group and now that the Lincoln group is growing, it seems like a good time to learn more about each other.
Please introduce yourself. If you're at a loss for what to say, here's a some questions:
1-What city do you live in? If Lincoln, what part of town?
2-What is your Lincoln connection?
3-What is your dream job?
4-One of your favorite musicians?
5-Favorite cereal?
Also, post a small pic or link to one of your favorite Nebraska pics from your photostream.

I am so glad you started up a Lincoln group, and am excited to be involved!
Hello, everyone. I am Sarah, and I am a workaholic.
1. I have lived in Lincoln since my birth, in March of 1980. Because I blog with my real identity, my exact place of residence has always been something I've kept private - But I shall reveal that I live near downtown, to the South.
2. See #1.
3. You know, as this photography thing becomes more of a hobby, I must say I wouldn't mind being paid to do it all the time.
4. David Bowie.
5. I don't do cereal, but as a child I loved Life.

1. Suburbia, Lincoln
2. I don't really like Lincoln, mainly because I've been to/lived in places that I like a lot more (born/lived in New Mexico, lived in California after that, then moved here). Also, all of my extended family lives on the west coast.
3. "Dream job?" Well, right now it would probably be a job for a top photo magazine (PDN, Nat. Geo.) or a good newspaper. I really hope to find some way to live in Europe and take photographs for a company of places they send me to for free 8)
4. Aphex Twin
5. Cereal? Boo Berry/Count Chocula

Taken at a park in the Sheridan neighborhood where I like to walk. The tree was cut down recently.

2-Live here.
3-I want to own my own coffee shop. Before I do that, I'm hopefully going to go into professional portrait photography for money, hopefully I won't suck like Giebler or Dale. I may become a teacher, it's a possibility that I realized was pseudo-feasable a couple days go.
4-Radiohead.
5-Depends. Kix, Cheerios, Frosted Flakes.

1-I live (for now) in far west Lincoln, near Coddington & South.
2-I've ended up in Lincoln because it is halfway between my hometown in KS and my wife's in NE.
3-Since moving back to the midwest I have recaptured an old passion. Therefore, I'm taking baby steps towards a "dream job" right now.

It might take 10 years, but someday I'd love to be a full time landscape photographer along the lines of John Fielder or Michael Forsberg.
4-I love ALL kinds of music. Lately I've become a fan of The New Amsterdams (aka The Terrible Twos) out of Lawrence, KS.
5- I rarely eat before noon. But then I make up for it...

And no, I don't miss the mountains. Or the traffic, or the smog. Or the headaches from the traffic & smog.
I do miss people I grew to know, certain stores & restaurants, and really good local TV news. Other than that, I think I prefer Lincoln.

3. Oh you know, the usual. Take pictures, write, make music, travel... all those things that you can't make money with very easily. : ) Actually I'd love to marry a youth pastor some day and work with a youth group... but God will have to handle that one.

Hi all. I'm Joshua. I'm 23 and I'm known for doing things.
1) I live in Lincoln at present, near Westgatefieldway shoppingtownmall.
2) I've lived here most of my life, with the exception of a year and a half of living on an acreage near Crete, and a few months spent in California. I may continue living here or I may end up some where else, I don't know where fate will take me.
3) My dream job is venture capitalist. You get rich by giving away money! How awesome is that? Otherwise, graphic designer, which is what I'm working towards.
4) Too many to list, but for now I'll just go with Manu Chao
5) Cocoa pebbles, hands down.
Finally, I can't really pick a Nebraska picture that is my favorite, so I'll go with a most recent one, of the Ben Verley Trail at Pioneers Park:

4. I like just about anything - Some of my favorites are Nine Inch Nails, Alison Krauss, Gaelic Storm and movie scores (e.g. "American Beauty" and "Chocolat").
5. Not much of a cereal guy, but when I do find time to eat breakfast I'll eat Frosted Mini Wheats or Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal.

Hey everyone! My name's Nichole, I'm a first-year photographer. Bought my first ever digital camera in March, finally graduating from the disposable models. lol The main reason I bought my camera was to capture pics and vids from concerts. My passion is music, especially live music. If you get me started talking or typing about music, I'll usually go on for awhile. I do a lot of traveling with my friends and my cousin to go to shows around the area. Most of the time my motto could be "Where to next?". : )
1- I live in Lincoln with my friend Steph who I've known since I was 2 years old. It's her house, and we live with another girl Dana who I met the day she moved in and we all get along great. Couldn't ask for better roommates.
2- Born on April 5, 1983 @ Lincoln General Hospital [Before it was Bryan LGH West], it was snowing outside and "Terms of Endearment" was being filmed at the same time.
3- Anything to do with music, traveling is a must, maybe a graphic designer/photographer....also working with
Jeremy Cowart would be the another dream job. His photos are AMAZING, and inspire me to no end. He's one of the reasons I got interested in photography.

Hey all- I'm Sandi. It great to meet so many of you at the last flickr walk!
1- I live in Omaha. I came here to go to Creighton about 10 years ago and never left. Is it fair to just link to my Omaha post?
2- No Lincoln connection per se. But I was born and raised in NE in a tiny rural town near Norfolk called Tilden, so if I need a connection we always came to town for field trips and state competitions. And I just love meeting fellow flickrites, so I came to town for the last walk. The people gathered on this site are some of the most interesting ones I've encountered.
3- Dream job? I'd say something that involves teaching and creating, so I suppose I'm doing it. I don't really care for the tedious task of writing code all that much, but I love the idea of it and to help and watch people's ideas that flow from the things I've created and worked on.
4- One of my favs has always been the Violent Femmes. I've seen em 3 times and would love to see them about 3 thousand more, one of the latest opportunities being my pic, see below.
5- Whole Foods 5 grain cereal with soy topped with Silk. mmm...wholesome goodness.

1—How much time you got? I moved from Detroit to Lincoln in 1981 after marriage to a local Nebraska boy. We lived at 25th and Vine St. until we moved to Bennet. From there, moved to Peru and then Verdon. Now divorced—back in Peru, hopefully on to Lincoln for grad school in a few years. Love the city and all it has to offer…specially fond of the Haymarket and the Crescent Moon Café.
2—Guess I answered most of that in the first question…oops!
3—Michael Forsberg has my dream job—photojournalist. He’s a genuinely nice man also. I’m very passionate, not quite rabid, about nature and writing, working towards my bachelor’s of arts in English at Peru State College and hope to receive a master’s in creative writing from UNL or perhaps UNK someday. I’ll either teach at the college level or give Forsberg a run for his money.
4—Eric Clapton.
5—Cheerios, not frosted, not honey nut, not multigrain or anything else….just plain ole Cheerios—straight up

Hi. I don't know why I've never added to this thread. I guess today's the day to get it done! I've met several of you on the 2 flickrwalks I've been on and hope to make it to many, many more walks. They are always an education- at the very least.
1- I live in Lincoln close to 70th and South street with my husband and three kids- ages 8, 5, and 3. I am a voice teacher with a private home studio. I've never been one to ENJOY performing although I've done lots of it. I much, much, much prefer teaching. I'm a behind the scenes person- I think that's why I enjoy being BEHIND the lens so much more than the other end. :)
2- I was born in Lincoln in 1972 and moved to Grand Island for grade school and then to Casper, Wyoming for high school and a little "trial" college time (we all go through that time, right???) and there I met my husband at the age of 18 yrs old. We moved out here together in 1993 to finish college and got married in 1995. We are still together. :)
3- I love art. All artistic expression is energizing to me. I love music and teaching- and I do both of those. I have always loved photography and in fact chose vocal study in college rather than photography because I already owned my voice and wouldn't have to invest in any equipment like I would with photography. Now I'm trying to see that dream through. www.resonancephotography.com- also at www.myspace.com/resphoto . It's a real dream come true for me.
4- I know everyone always says this- but in my case it really is true- I listen to everything! Sans country- I don't hate it, I'm just not very into it. I'm currently into Panic at the Disco quite a bit as well as E.S.Posthumus.
5- Optimum Zen- Sesame Ginger. It is SOOO good.

Hi, I'm Keith...kinda new to flickr but I have a feeling it'll consume a lot of my time. I hope to make it out on a photo walk sometime and meet some people. I don't have much up on flickr but my website is www.keithstueven.com
1 - I'm from Lincoln, 33rd and Van Dorn area
2 - I was born and raised in Grand Island, went to college in Hastings, and got a job as Chief Photographer for KLKN-TV in June of '05. So anyways that's what brought me to Lincoln. There is so much more to do in the Lincoln/Omaha area rather than Central Nebraska the only drawback is that I'm an hour and a half further from the Sandhills, which is my favorite part of the state to escape to with my camera.
3 - I really enjoy my job now but I'll never be happy until I am boss free and work for myself. I think it would be great to own a gallery but I'm a video junkie so maybe I'll own my own production house. Until then I'll just chill with my cameras.
4 - I like all sorts of music...a few favorite artists are Big and Rich, Steve Earle, Tim McGraw, Sigur Ros, Alice in Chains, The Postal Service, Gordon Lightfoot, Finger Eleven, Disturbed
5 - Cookie Crisp

1. I live in Lincoln. Used to be near Coddington and West A streets, but now near SouthPointe Pavilions.
2. Raised in a small town near here, moved away for many years, then came back for a job and have been here eight years.
3. An independently wealthy philanthropist. It looks like I might as well get used to the idea of being a greeter at WalMart though.
4. All kinds of music. Beatles, Dylan, Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Lately I'm into Ray LaMontagne but I'm ready to move on.
5. Raisin Bran Crunch (aka Colon Blow).

Hi Everyone...my name is Diane and I just joined this group today.
1. I live in S.E. Lincoln.
2. We moved here in the Fall of 2000 from Pennsylvania. My husband got a job at Bryan LGH. The reason we moved out here was that the hospital back east that he worked for was eventually closing. So we had no choice but to try and relocate before it happened. It was a big change for me, but I did like the wide open spaces and feel at home here now.
3. I am retired and enjoy being an amateur photographer. In my working days I was a secretary and an assistant purchasing agent for a mining company back east. I also worked for the government.
4. I think my All Time Favorite Musician is Pink Floyd
Right now, my favorite song for this past year has been "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, although the rest of their songs I don't care for. And my favorite all time song is "Do You Feel Like I Do" by Peter Frampton.
5. I love my Honey Nut Cheerios :-)

Here's mine:
1. I live near 25th and A streets.
2. I grew up in southern California and moved here for graduate school. My mom and much of her side of the family are from small town nebraska (near Crofton).
3. My dream job, put simply, is anything that will allow me to move to and live in Barcelona, Spain. Whatever it takes i'll do, i'm not too proud to drive a bus or a train.
4. I like loud, obnoxious music. My favorite band of all time is His Hero Is Gone (Memphis, TN). I also am really into Spazz (San Francisco, CA). I play in a band called Billy Knuckles, as well as an as-of-yet-unnamed side-project.
5. I don't eat cereal much, but Cracklin Oat Bran is my favorite.

P.S. my band is recording our second CD as well as a future split EP with Mother Pile, here in town next weekend (2/23 thru 2/25 or so), and would be interested in someone taking a few photos of us in the studio for the liner notes of the CD. We are too broke to pay, but you'll get photo credits in the CD. message me if you are interested.

Hi, I am, as you might have already suspected, Maggie Osterberg.
1- I live in Lincoln. Yo, Southside! Hey, I'm close to Dietze and D'Leon's and d'Barnes & Noble, so it could be worse. I am dismayed by how long it takes me to get to Leon's Food Mart, but am thankful that it's there. Same goes for Ideal. Mummmm, food.
2- I live here, as does all of my family. I moved here from San Francisco after the dot com crash, bankrupt and borderline psychotic/desperate. I grew up in Omaha and on a farm outside of Craig, NE.. My dad had a stroke and I'm a live-in caretaker, which means I live with my parents.
I sort of maintain a blog/website: What The Hell Am I Doing Here?
3- Musician/Weirdo. I'm living the dream. Mostly. I've got an album you can buy from the iTunes Music Store and you can listen to me try to figure out what my next album is going to be here: www.macidol.com/jamroom/maggieo
4-One of your favorite musicians? Let's go with my pal, Sp3ccylad, who is also the other half of my "band" Lust & Death.
5-Favorite cereal? The mighty Product19.
I'm delighted to find this Flickr group- I've been a photographer since I was seven and have been, on and off, a pro shooter for newspapers (starting with a gig as a sports photographer for the Oakland Independent newspaper) and magazines and am currently just shooting nonsense for the fun of it. I used to have thousands of photos up at my Flickr site but an internet stalker made me take all of my web presence down and I'm slowly putting things back up again. I've decided to mostly start over from scratch, so that means new photos, new songs, new stories and whatever. The blog archive is still mostly there, tho'.
I'm looking forward to doing some of the Flickr walks and meeting you fine folks in person!

1-I live in the Irvingdale district of Lincoln - basically between South St. and Irvingdale Park.
2-My husbands family is all from Lincoln.
3-Hmmmm. The one I have now is pretty cool.... but it would be awesome to work as a curator for the Smithsonian, or the Field Museum, or the Art Institute......
4-One? - really depends on my mood.... currently it is Gaelic Storm.
5-Cracklin Oat Bran - and I have to hide it at my house 'cause my kids have discovered that Mommy's cereal is better than the Lucky Charms. :-)
Here's one of my favorites... in the Capitol... no big surprise, I'm sure.

Bon soir, je m'apple Christophe. i hope that that did indeed satisfy the 3 years of high school i wasted in a french class. (thanks Madame!) Chris is the name and posing as a photog is the game. serious photography questons should not be addressed to me as i will most certainly not have the answers. i find it hard to type at this time as seven stitches in my left thumb prevent me from being both comfortable and accurate. 2 - I have for most of my life travelled to lincoln, and since marrying a teacher in town have made it my place of residence, although i drive to work near Pickrell 6 days a week.
3 - The one that i currently hold. A water well driller. Gives me all i need, fresh air, open sky, thunderstorms while working on steel equipment, and pollen for my allergies. But i love it!
4 - Prince Rogers Nelson
5 - OK. This makes me sound really old, but Cracklin Oat Bran. And at any time of day.

This was on August 27th, 2006. Village Inn parking lot @ 66th & O. That was my Impalla.

If I remeber correctly, I believe a kid was street racing down O street, lost control of said vehicle, popped the curb, took out the fire hydrant and slammed into Chris' Impala which, thankfully, was parked in the Village Inn parking lot with Chris and his wife safely inside. That would be the short version.

Guess I've been here long enough to get around to this thread. Pardon me for being wordy:
What city do you live in? If Lincoln, what part of town?
My wife Becky (a.k.a. photogREWpher) and I live in the Bethany neighborhood of Lincoln, about 5 blocks from 70th & Holdrege streets.
What is your Lincoln connection?
Born here - Lincoln General Hospital in 1963. Lived my whole life here, for a long time in the University Place neighborhood (Huntington Elementary, Dawes Jr. High and Lincoln Northeast, class of '81). Started working for the Lincoln City Libraries while still in High School, and somehow never quit. Without a library degree, I've managed to get all the way up to assistant webmaster for the libraries, but whole bunches of changes in the last 5 or 6 months have suddenly made working there very uncomfortable and unhappy. I feel no particular loyalty to Lincoln -- it's okay, but I'd've been perfectly happy to live somewhere else. But, I've got so many roots (friends, family, financial obligations) set down here now I doubt I'll probably ever leave. Sigh...
What is your dream job?
I'm a huge fan of TV, specifically the style of shows done by uber-producer Stephen J. Cannell (The Rockford Files, The Greatest American Hero, Riptide, Hardcastle & McCormick, Wiseguy, Profit, etc.) and my dream job had always been to be involved in television production of those types of shows. Secondary dream job would be to make a living as a fiction writer. Since I've been so bogged down in real life to never make any attempt at either of those possibilities, I guess we'll just call those unfulfilled dreams. I'd also love to be able to make a living (or supplement my income) with photography, but it's really only ever been a hobby. Although, since purchasing my first digital camera in July '06, I find myself taking a lot more photos and looking at things with a more artistic eye. I doubt if I'll ever completely drop using my old Canon AE-1 Program film camera.
One of your favorite musicians?
I really don't pay attention to the current music scene -- I collect movie soundtracks (primarily "score" music as opposed to songs with lyrics), and enjoy my favorites from the 60s 70s and 80s. Billy Joel's probably my favorite, but I've purchased albums in recent years by Dido, The Calling, Ben Folds Five, Vanessa Carlton, etc. I almost never listen to the radio any more. I just got a 30gig iPod, and most of what's loaded onto it is soundtracks and soft rock.
Favorite cereal?
What I'd prefer to eat is Corn Pops, Honeycombs or Crispy Wheaties and Raisins (no longer manufactured). What my doctor wants me to eat is Fiber One. Ewww...
As to favorite photos...I'm kind of an introvert, and don't really take many shots of people. I like taking photos of "things" and "places" and one of my favorite "things" is architectural details. Here's one of my favorites, from downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, during one of my and my wife's annual trips up to photograph the Peanuts statues they had scattered around town from 2000 to 2004:

3-What is your dream job?
My dream job would be to own a little used book store with a coffee shop. I would also like to provide local artists a venue to display and sell their art.
4-One of your favorite musicians?
If I had to pick one it would be Diana Krall
5-Favorite cereal?

Hi, my name is Shawna. I am glad that I found this group. I don't have many photos posted yet, as I just started uploading public images today. I hope to have more soon. Am considering upgrading to pro account, just trying it out first to see what happens. :-)
1- I live in Lincoln.
2- My connection to Lincoln - I was born in Nebraska City, but moved away when I was young. Lived in various parts of the country, but most of my childhood was in Louisiana. After school I moved back to Nebraska (Lincoln) for a job. That was in 1986, and have been here ever since. I am married with three children, and most of my family is here, and this is where I will be forever. (Unless I win the lottery, then I will be traveling to world!)
3- Dream job - Is there such a thing, really? lol. Ok, since it is a dream I can pick anything...I wish I could work for National Geographic or The Discovery Channel. It would have been so awesome to be part of the crew that created, filmed and photographed 'Planet Earth'!
4- I like all kinds of music, but Country is my favorite. Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney are tied as my current favorites.
5- I don't eat cereal much, but I do really like Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Life and Fruity Pebbles.

3-What is your dream job?
Professional Golfer or Golf photographer, either would be fine with me.
4-One of your favorite musicians?
Barenaked Ladies, saw them in Omaha, wow, they rock
5-Favorite cereal?
I don't really do breakfast, but I guess if I had to pick one, it would be Fruity Pebbles.

Hi. I've been putting this off for a while. I'm Mary. I pretty much grew up in Lincoln, my husband moved me away as he's in the Navy. I moved back into town last year to have my baby. He was born in October, we'll be out of town again in December for who knows how many years. My dream job is one I've had, and hope to have again. I want to teach preschool. It is one of the most rewarding, entertaining jobs I've ever had. Favorite musicians is tough. But one that I have stuck with since I was a kid is Joan Baez. Her voice, even as she has gotten older is marvelous. She has some great newer stuff out! My favorite cereal used to be Blueberry Morning. Since I had the baby and I'm nursing, I've been sampling different cereals. None of the ones I've tried have measured up to what I ate as a kid.. But I think that Cinnamon Toast Crunch is pretty good even as an adult.
This picture is from atop the tower at Platte River State Park in December. I don't think many people are dumb enough to climb that tower in the freezing cold to get the view.

Wow! As I posted on the group pic from the latest Photowalk, I'm more than a little bit thrilled to finally connect with the photography community here in town. As for the background questions....
1. Where am I? Lincoln, out on the west side.
2. What am I doing here? I moved out here to persue my favored "realistic" line of work, involving wildlife conservation on private lands.
3. "Dream Job"....To be paid to document people & places through photography. (I don't know if that means National Geographic or the local newspaper....at this point, I wouldn't be too picky.)
4. I can pretty much appreciate any type of music, but when forced to choose....it has to be Robert Earl Keen.
5. Cereal-wise, I'm a big fan of oatmeal of all things.

I drive by this mailbox just about
everyday, and decided it was time
to give it a little recognition.

Greetings all! I was introduced to this group by Elwood Photo. My name is Robert. My background is art and graphic design, but I started getting into photography a couple of years ago.
1-What city do you live in? If Lincoln, what part of town?
I live in Lincoln near the Near South area.
2-What is your Lincoln connection?
I moved to Lincoln from Colorado during my sophmore year of high school and have been here ever since (although I do often consider moving back to CO, as I miss the mountains).
3-What is your dream job?
I have several, actually. Currently, I'm already doing what I've always wanted to do -- graphic design. However, I'd really like to get some writing published (I'm currently in the editing stages of a novel).
4-One of your favorite musicians?
One? That's a joke, right? Let's see... Danny Elfman, Queen, John Williams, Metallica, Leonard Cohen, Trent Reznor, Beethoven, Cake.
How's that for eclectic?
5-Favorite cereal?
Admittedly, I don't often eat breakfast, but when I do eat cereal, I tend to like all sorts of things from Frosted Flakes, to Crunch Berries, to Caramel Nut Crunch, etc.
