LED glove with flex sensor tutorial
|
A while back I posted a tutorial for a simple LED glove:
www.flickr.com/groups/lightjunkies/discuss/72157617389306...
The first version could only be on or off, there was no way to merely dim the light. By the way, there were much too few LEDs. Here's part 2.
All you need is:
- an old glove
- a piece of felt
- several LEDs
- 3 resistors
- 1 transistor
- 1 flex sensor (better 2 or some conductor glue, for the case you break one)
- wire and solder
- the thinnest copper wire you can get
- twisted yarn
Step 1: Wire up this thing on a breadboard. When it works, replace the single LED with all LEDs you want to use and swap the resistors until the maximum light and the dimming effect are alright.
Step 2: Solder the pieces except the LEDs and the flex sensor. Be careful connecting the flex sensor, the damn thing is damageable! After I broke one, I left the second one inside a plastic wrapping and taped it to the glove's finger..
Step 3: Sew fine conducting lines onto the glove's fingers with a needle and the thin copper wire. Hook the LEDs into the wires, fasten them with a drop of solder.
Step 4: Sew the piece of felt to the back of the glove's wrist. This will be the battery case.
Step 5: Attach the battery and make sure everything works.
Switch the light on and off with the flex sensor on your finger:
Have fun and show me your pictures!
I'll post my paintings as soon as I find a dark and quiet night...
