use light in your artwork

i just thought i would mention an easy way to use your light drawings/writings/paintings in your PS artwork. I did some drawings in pitch black with no light pollution. i can then drag these photos into PS and set the opacity to 'screen' and presto the black background disappears leaving just your light. right now 'glow effects' seem to be big so instead of using a light effect why not use real light. i also converted these photos in to brushes by inverting them and edit>save brush preset... you will have to play with curves and levels to get everything right while maintaining the original glow of your light source.

some example pics
the fllowing 3 pics appear in the following artwork using the mentioned process.

I tried setting the blending mode to "screen" and it did not work for me. Can you give me a few more pointers?

open any pic in PS then open a lightpainting pic with a blackbackground.

adjust the levels to make sure the black is black.

then drag the ligh painting photo over the other pic. this should import it into a new layer in the other pic. this layer should be on top of the original pic( or background layer).

with this light painting pics layer selected select 'screen' for the opacity. that is to the left of where you can choose the opacity percentage. this should make the black disappear and leave the light.

if you are still having troubles let me know. feel free to try with my pics from this thread.

cheers,
tdub

I found this over on DeviantArt. It is a great resource for this topic. I have contacted the owner and have permission to offer this.

HERE!

It is a ton of different colored swirls on black.
