Thanks to a Flicker fellow, Russell Sayers, we can see all the geotagged pictures of our group on the Google Map. We can navigate the map, zoom in and go to the flickr photo page. Try it!

flickrservice.liquidmesh.com/GeoViewer.aspx?group=3841696...

This is a first try. It needs better organization of the info (titles...) and a way of grouping the photos (tags)
All you have to do to have your pictures on the map is geotag them. See the group page for explanations.

This is cool! Although my partner, looking over my shoulder, informed me that I misnamed one of my photos. So now we'll have to see if the system will recognize the name change.

Yes, it happened to me also, it can take some time, but it does.
Tempted to geotag some more...? It's a lot easier now :-D

I have to thank Lluisa and Russell so much for their hard work on this. It is an interesting testament to electronic community, library folks, technologists, Web 2.0 and technology reaching more its promise and potential. This sort of thing is *exactly* the sort of extra I hoped would come from this group. Cool X3! Thanks guys! I just can't wait to see what is around the next corner.

Thanks for the plug, Lluisa. :) I have a whole section in this workshop about electronic community with a mention of this group and a video of "our" Geotagging project in action. WebJunction gets more attention, but this provides some real human additional interest (especially when I include a few pictures of librarians;).

Where are the South American and African libraries? I have a couple from Egypt and Russia, but they are very quality and I haven't put them on Flickr because of that. Anybody else? No India? Surely South America will show up soon, no?

Looks like we'll have to go, at least to India :-)

I posted a picture of the libraru in Bangalore, which is still in India, a long time back.Or do you mean it needs geotagging? I failed to understand how to do that in the Catalan group.

The liquidmesh site doesn't work at the moment - it says "Invalid response received (There is an error in XML document (14, 9).) (9998)" - is this just a problem with my browsers or do you experience the same problem? Wanted to show it in a course I teach today... *grr*

Sorry, I was out for a couple of days...It looks like everybody's favorite mashup is back up and running. I have seen it go down a briefly couple of times before though. Sorry you didn't get to use it in class. I also use it in class, and it aslways goes over really well. However, I did a video screenshot just in case it goes down (and it has come in handy once or twice).

Well, in case you did geotag some photos, rejoice! because the new Flickr map is showing all geotagged pics on Yahoo Maps, and they can be filtered by user, group or tag. I think it still needs some improvement because not all the geotagged pictures show up, but I'm sure they will in due time...
And in case you didn't, now it's the time! You can geotag your photos very easily with Flickr organizer: you just drag them to the map!
