About LIANZA Conference 2006

Quoted from www.lianza.org.nz:

Tēna koutou, tēna koutou, tēna koutou katoa
Nau mai, haere mai ki te Huarahi Whakamua.
Nau mai, haere mai ki te Whānganui-a-Tara.

Next Generation Libraries – what does that mean for us? Mash-ups, tag clouds, ontologies, BitTorrent, Flickr, YouTube, e-learning, Gen Y…He Huarahi Whakamua we’ll take up the challenge to embrace all that Next Generation Libraries means for us!

In 2006 we in the library and information profession are experiencing more than ever before the integration of people with documents, informal networks and assorted datasets. We need to be modifying our services to facilitate the research process in multi-faceted, complex knowledge environments.

Now, more than ever before, our customers need help in finding the right information for their needs. And now, more than ever before, our customers need the sense of security and community associated with libraries as physical and virtual places.

We promise a conference that encourages a culture of reflective practice, explores information re-use and contextualisation and ensures our eyes are firmly fixed on the way forward. We will be challenged to expand our thinking to wider horizons – customers, workplaces, services and technologies combined. Our superb line-up of international and local speakers will encourage lighthouse thinking in service development based on marketing principles, information literacy, knowledge management and intellectual property rights.
