About Isle of Lewis & Harris

Failte don Eilean Leodhais agus Na Hearadh ~ Welcome to the Isle of Lewis & Harris.
Please enjoy these photographs of our beautiful island and feel free to comment on photos or open a discussion topic. New photographs are added every week by our members.

A group for photography of the scenery & culture of the largest and most northerly of the Western Isles ('Na h-Eileanan Siar' a.k.a. the Outer Hebrides) of Scotland. Historically regarded as two distinct islands; the Isle of Lewis is actually the northern part and Isle of Harris the southern part of the one island. Stornoway is the (only) town and administrative/commercial centre of the island while Tarbert is the primary village of Harris.
There is a good number of natives on Flickr now and it seemed time Lewis & Harris had their own group so feel free to post pictures of life in the Long Island. Obviously the group is not a catch-all for any picture taken of or in this geographical area - just use your common sense to post noteworthy or interesting pictures of island life to share with locals and visitors.
More information on the Isle of Lewis & Harris can be found here and here.
Members of the Isle of Lewis & Harris group occasionally meet for photowalks on the island and photos from these Flickr Meets and discussion can be found at www.flickr.com/groups/lewisandharrismeetups/
There is also a group for Western Isles in Black and White photography: www.flickr.com/groups/westernisles/
The St. Kilda archipelago off the coast of Harris has its own group at www.flickr.com/groups/stkilda/
There are many other Scotland groups - go to www.flickr.com/groups/scots/ for a complete list.
